And don't forget, his dad scored 2 goals in a playoff game for us once...(jeez, i wonder how short *that* list is?)

To answer my own question, pretty short. 10 total among 7 skaters, 3 on the same day (Game 2 vs DET 1998), 3 since DeBrusk's in 1999:

Louie DeBrusk 4/25/1999
Shane Doan 4/16/2011, 5/20/2012
Jeremy Roenick 4/24/1998,4/26/1998
Darrin Shannon 4/20/1997
Keith Tkachuk 4/24/1997,4/24/1998
Rick Tocchet 4/24/1998
Antoine Vermette 4/14/2012

Phil Kessel is due a $5 million bonus tomorrow. So do we trade him tonight? Haha.

Surprised they're going to eat that bonus. No real reason to trade him after doing so.

No trade Kessel. If we are trading anyone it should he him. He has value but hate watching his floating half ass effort
I don’t know man, I’ve played with a few of his type and you’re always glad to have them….. when they’re on
Edit: Not saying whether to keep or trade him, or not, just making a point.

I hear you, can you imagine if we didn’t have his goals last year? Sad part is I see him as a major glitch to our culture. Fitness, effort and hard work we should be known for. Kessel is none of that.

In the Master Class podcast interview I’ve posted the link to, Tourigny ironically talks about the challenges of coaching a player like Phil Kessel (literally used him as an example) and about the right way to go about it. Funny, it seems he’s about to put his theory to the test.

That’s hilarious!
Could happen?

I don't like that the young players look up to Kessel as a god, so for that reason alone I'd look to move him.
Why shouldn't they look up to him? 15 yr. NHL career, 0.81 P/GP, never gets hurt, beat cancer, etc. He has warts, but so does every other player playing the game. Kessel is not my favorite player, but I sure admire him on what he has done. Hat's off to him.

Great point. He’s good for the culture of some teams. Those with unquestionable leadership. Then he’s a nice comedic relief and support piece. But I don’t think you want him in a situation where he’s being looked up to as an example and to set the pace.

I don't want them to mimic Kessel off-ice. It takes a rare talent to pound hot dogs and play poker and golf and still be able to score 30.

Yea, about Kessel - easy to dislike because his nonchalant appearance leads us to wonder what he could do with full effort. Eyes are more biased than stats. He led us in scoring. I don't care if he doesn't look like Carbomb out there, ready to blow through a brick wall. It only appears that he doesn't put out effort. He produces. I really don't want to lose him.

Arvidsson got the 39th overall and a 3rd next year. I have to expect his trade value is a higher than Kessel's. He's younger, and his aav is lower, and he's signed longer. I guess Kessel's value is probably a mid-late 2nd right now. I imagine he'll be worth at least that at the TDL, if not more. With his bonus paid, the question really comes down to whether you want him here or not. There's nothing to be gained from trading him now versus later, other than removing him more quickly. I guess we'll see what BA really thinks of this player.

The thing to me is he needed to be moved before the bonus. Now that it didn't happen, keep him until later in the year.

With kessel’s bonus paid, I expect him to be traded sooner rather than later. There have likely been discussions with other teams regarding him that trading him was contingent on that bonus paid, so now that that’s out of the way they can circle back.

Im just spitballing though, of course

If Vancouver is looking to move on from Schmidt (whispers he wasn’t happy there), and Arizona is looking to move on from OEL (both sides want this to be over) then wouldn’t OEL for Schmidt and Eriksson make everyone happy? Yotes get a really good partner for Chychrun on their top pair and save actual cash. Vancouver gets an upgrade on defense, and saves a bunch of aav.
