Which UFAs meet the criteria?

Not sure if there is an advanced metric that indicates this but I imagine skating and size helps a lot. I've used this word a lot in the past when discussing Murphy, but I always thought he was very rangy. Not the best skater but he was able to close off space and had a great stick. Used his reach from good positions to disrupt the puck carrier or break plays. Seth Jones has this plus top tier skating.

The UFA list is a little bleak for players that have these qualities, much more traditional larger guys who are better at breaking cycles. That being said Oleksiak, McCabe and Gustafsson would be solid pickups. Ryan Murray is another interesting name, I didn't follow him in NJ but I feel like he is evolving his play style to be more of a shifty shutdown player (I may be way off here). Poolman and Hakanpaa both are near the top of my list. Merrill and Hutton feel like guys to look at if we miss out on some of the other names listed.

Damn, I was gonna say Makar and MacKinnon, what a bargain!

In all seriousness, what sort of player/prospect/pick(s) would be acceptable?
At this point, 2nd + a prospect I would imagine. I really don't want to see us trade any of our young guys yet. RT was so bad for this roster, evaluating what we have is difficult and Crouse could actually be the 30pt winger most of us thought we would get this past year. Next year that could be a lot closer to just a 3rd if he flops.

Since we’re rebuilding the D from scratch, this is mildly interesting

Part of having great xGA is being excellent at xGF 5v5 and xGF% in general.

The Canadiens are Actually Good.

On stattrick you want to look at on ice 5v5 xGF% rates for guys that actually get put out for dzone faceoffs.

Oleksiak immediately pops out as the best to fit this mold. Jon Merrill. Adam Larsson. Martinez.

You would want to avoid absolutely pure defenders like Scandella/Hjalmarsson types.

Of the 170 guys that played 500 or more minutes 5v5, OEL had the fourth worst xGF%.

Trade OEL, sign Oleksiak. Got it!

Crouse really frustrated me this year, I know he has size but seldomly uses it. He seems to be stuck in his head because so many great scoring chances he absolutely choked. Crouse must have hit more crossbars or missed the net than any other Coyote. I would trade him for someone like Warren Foegele. Has the potential to be a good 2nd line or great 3rd line LW. From what I have watch Warren is smart with the puck and has a strong passion. Might be a great minor change?

When he went after Soucy, he bought himself another 50 games for me.

IMO, GMBA will try to build a playoff team next season.
He'll try to hit a home run during free agency, but there ain't much to pick from.
1st though, you have the Kraken to deal with. 7-4-1 vs 4-4-1 may lead to opportunities, directly or indirectly. Seattle will pick 30 contracts, so they will likely trade some. Francis will covet that which is exempt from the expansion draft and nhl-ready prospects that are in a log jam on their current team. GMBA needs to take advantage of these opportunities if he is to make a winning roster.
I want some of what you're drinking. If we make the playoffs we can all meet at a Yard House to watch the first game together and the first round is on me.

I kinda agree, he's like a sheriff with a tin badge. Schmaltz tends to play larger then Crouse. Maybe a new coach will bring the power forward out.

Having trouble reading? The 2nd word is try. Talking about priorities, GMBA will "try" to make the playoffs. Isn't that what GMs suppose to do? And it ain't like we are not close. And we haven't even finished the season. Promoting Jenik and Soderstrom is already an upgrade to the players they are replacing. And I like the signing of Jaskin. NO TOCCHET is such a big plus.
Anyways, I would rather go drinking with other people.

Oh, ok. And I didn't even say "Honey, haven't we met before?"

Wow I couldn't possibly disagree with this more. Schmaltz is the softest player we have and is probably one of the softest in the league. You may not like Crouse but saying Schmaltz plays bigger makes me wonder if you've ever seen them play.

I don't think Schmaltz did enough this year to define a role for himself. He should be moved.
I’d like to see if a new staff can get some consistency out of him. When he’s playing the right way and doing the right things, I really like his game. His only problem is that he doesn’t do what he needs to do enough of the time.

Well, this will be his third coaching staff to try it. If this one doesn't pan out, then we're gonna have to trade him for a bag of pucks.

He was good under Q, wasn’t he?
He had a good season and a disappointing half season where he was traded to us I believe.

---

I still like Schmaltz but he's a 2nd line center (3rd if you want a high offense 3rd line). I think he definitely requires teammates that elevate him, not the other way around. I'm totally cool keeping him if we can add a legit 1st/2nd line center to go along with Dvorak and Schmaltz. Doesn't even have to a an elite #1, just a steady 55+ point guy that brings a bit of an edge to his game (McTavish potentially).

Well, his 2017-2018 stat line was pretty good (21/31/52 and +1) but the next season he fell off a cliff (which is why he got shipped here). That stat line, incidentally, is the best he's done since he was in the USHL with Green Bay in 2014.

In other words, he's a bigger Keller - a guy with noticeable skills and a lot of "potential for greatness" whose ceiling has topped out at the 50 point mark.

I have more time for Keller because he’s 3 years younger than Schmaltz and has only played for one coach. Plus he was drafted by Arizona and I agree with BA that playing for the team that drafted you means more to players.

Even worst case scenario, Keller would still be eligible for the one-third buyout rule a few years down the line.

Last time was 2017 driving R66. Stayed in Monument Valley, Winslow, Sedona and Kingman.
So, you stayed north of the "oven" line. Good for you, up until a few days ago, it was absolutely BRUTAL here in Phoenix. Smart man staying in cooler surroundings...

His career high is 52 points in Chicago. He was on pace 52 points in 19/20. On pace for 50.5 last season. He's the definition of a 2nd liner.

I have a bit of hope he could get closer to 60, consistency was an issue for him last season. I sort of put that on Tocchet, our offense was good then got figured out.

Watching the conference finals and it's obvious that players like Nelson/Kilorn/J. Anderson/Tofoli are so important. We don't have any top 6 wingers who can go to the net and throw their weight around. Who in UFA fits this bill?
Coleman is a miniature version. Goodrow is a less talented version. There aren’t many. They’re tough to get t
