Kuemper will want $6 mil on an extension. No thanks.
Who said anything about an extension? If we trade Kuemper now we will be selling low. I would rather keep him and try to get him back to his all star form and then trade him. As far as back ups go, they are a dime a dozen, and I don't see Seattle selecting him anyways. We shall see.

But then who is our goalie after the trade deadline? In this scenario we've likely lost Hill to Seattle. The other risk is Kuemper underperforms or gets an injury and is worth nothing at the deadline, just what happened with Raanta this year.

The only way waiting until the deadline makes any sense is if the market for Kuemper is so dry this off-season that you really risk nothing by waiting until the trade deadline. If the best return you can get this summer is so low that you don’t mind missing out on it completely if he’s hurt at the TDL, then you can wait. I’m guessing he can still get at least a 2nd. If that’s on the table, then you have to deal him.

You can't predict the future. Like I said, back ups are a dime a dozen.

Getting rid of Tocchet help (in keeping the goalies healthy). I thought the premise was Hill will eventually be the long term starter. And like you said, can't predict the future, Kuemper may not return to all-star performances.

This is also a good option.

I'm basing my post above that Kuemper stays healthy up through the TDL and some team (cough Colorado cough) is willing to part with a 1st or second to shore up their goalie situation. If the offer is too good to pass then yes.... we trade him in the off season and go find another goalie who can eat up an equal number of games as Hill.

You protect Hill no matter what.

Kuemper has looked rather pedestrian recently, both for the coyotes last season and more recently in the IIHF. He has a .871 in the tournament so far, Canada is badly out shooting most of their opponents but losing. Might be better off if Seattle does pick him up for next year at 4.5m.

Good. I didn't understand that hire to begin with. He went from goaltending consultant to basically assistant GM with nothing in between.

Some excerpts From when he was hired:

Daccord, who goes back 20 years with Armstrong to their days when Armstrong was head coach of the AHL Providence Bruins, will serve as special assistant to the general manager and director of goaltending operations.

His roles will include overseeing scouting, development and performance of goaltenders in the Coyotes organization, running the developmental and rookie camps and using his Master's degree in sports management to help structure the different departments of hockey operations.

"This is exactly what I've been doing for 25 years," Daccord said. "Building the experience and the knowhow to get to this point. When Bill went over the job description and I looked at it on a piece of paper, I couldn't believe what I was looking at. I said 'This is exactly what I do. This is who I am and what I do.'"

“Brian will be a tremendous asset for us. He is an extremely knowledgeable hockey person and a goaltending expert,” Armstrong said in a statement from the Coyotes, adding that Daccord made a big impact with the Maple Leafs. “Brian has a great work ethic and is a man of integrity. Adding him to our club was a top priority and he will be instrumental in helping us change our culture here.”

Arizona Coyotes add Brian Daccord to hockey operations staff

I honestly couldn't care less about Daccord, himself. I've been given zero evidence to suggest he was the right guy for that role anyway. Strikes me as a complete nobody (outside of the goaltending pigeon hole).

But it's more about what this could mean. I don't care about Daccord and it looked like he was in a position way higher than his resume suggested was appropriate. But BA hand picked him. BA wanted him. Now this?

It’s scary. Hiring him in the first place is worrisome. Breaking up a year later is even more worrisome.

He is not getting that. He has proven nothing as a starter and will be 32 when his contract is up. One good year does not get him a $6 million dollar deal.

Who are some good, cheap options for AGMs?
Shane Doan

Honestly this shouldn’t be a hard role to fill. The issue is you just had your guy and either he sucked, he left for greener pastures, or there’s an unresolvable difference in opinion on multiple matters that led him to just say no thanks I’m out.
