I'll leave it to you and others to look up 1st round goalies or forwards that left junior for the ECHL. I can't recall any.

Tomas Vokoun, Tim Thomas, Jonathan Quick, Braden Holtby and Jaroslav Halak have all gone from Juniors to the ECHL. Non were picked in the 1st round though, so I get your point. The closest recent goalie is Vanecek, who was picked 39th overall in 2014.

I've already mentioned it... Kolzig. His NHL stats are better than his ECHL or AHL stats. ECHL stats are worse than Cossa's.

This is why I say that goalies are not as predictable as skater. As such, I am not fond of using first round picks for them. So I am not defending the pick, but I wouldn't say he's a bust yet either. I will say there were players I'd rather have instead.

Uncle! I never said I didn't want the guy to make it. The trade up for him in the first round led to a pro career beginning in the ECHL. It may have only been ME that thought that was unexpected. They moved up to 15 get him, thinking Minny was going to snag him.

Wallstedt AHL 27 games 10-4 (.909).

Cossa has 3 games (.783%). He also has 31 in the ECHL (.902%)

2021 NHL Entry Draft Picks at hockeydb.com

Both are a work in progress.

What I'll say is this; Specifically for the Red Wings organization/affiliates.

The Toledo Walleye are a lot more competitive in their league vs what the Griffins are in the AHL, Much more. For a young goalie it was more important to play in front of a good team vs going to the Griffins who are playing poorly and be let to hang out and dry and lose confidence vs gain.

Cossa will almost for sure be in some playoff hockey in the ECHL.

Bummer no 3rd straight shutout but another really good game from Sebastian who is finding his groove.

28 Saves in a 4-1 Win... Gave up the only goal with 6 minutes left

Including this world class save in the 1st.

I don't think those are the saves you want to be making too often, but definitely shows off his atleticism.

I think that was the plan all along... Ned is a FA after this season so he's gone... Brattstrom no... I fully espect it to be Cossa's net next season.
Him being in GR next year is definitely the plan. Expecting him to be the starter is something else completely. They'll need to get a veteran to be safe and not throw him to the wolves (hate those Chicago Wolves).

For someone we traded up to get, absolutely. Once he has a steady 100% save percentage, he can start working on his offensive contributions, and we might get some value out of the pick.

the fact that he's played so many games in the ECHL now and has yet to get a single hat trick is starting to give me serious doubts about his potential in the NHL as a goalscorer

Yeah, but based on the pre-draft scouting report, several of us raised that red flag before.

Really, Detroit only has themselves to blame if Cossa doesn't light the lamp more often. :D

Too soon? At least he doesn't have a good name to resurrect the Red Light nickname....

I think he will start to lead the rushes on our power play and still get back in time to make the save when needed
