I suspect that if countries like the US and Canada have any leaders with even a minute amount of brains that we will start to see more industry back in our countries at least in pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, PPE, etc. Hopefully in the tech sector as well. We should help to prop Mexico up and help them to be a brother to our nations and elevate their quality of life and productiveness as a country as well, make NA the envy of the world. The only possibly good thing that could come out of this from Trump IF he gets re-elected is that he has been against globalization so this could be his time to return important jobs back to US soil. Regardless of who the President is going forward, this needs to happen for things that are critical to everyday life. Let China keep producing cheap toys, Easter baskets, plastic cups (I don't buy them because I don't trust anything from there for food or drink), garbage bags, etc. but anything that actually matters, produce it in NA, Europe or in Asian countries not named China.

Not to mention their cheap pot metal guitar parts. Most guitar geeks will know what I'm on about here. ;)

This doesn't seem like a good look for you. There's posters I don't like, posters I disagree with, posters that are honestly....loony.

And that's just Drivesaitl. :naughty:

Ok, but seriously. It's not normal to dismiss someone as automatically being wrong just because who they are. Maybe take a break on the subject for a few days and retouch it.

The World Health Organization has been the subject of harsh criticism for repeating Chinese propaganda and failing to alert the world about the virus in a timely manner. A recently released letter shows that Taiwan warned the WHO (World Health Organization) of the virus in December. If they had, the entire pandemic would have been averted or the danger greatly reduced. Instead, they did nothing.

Taiwan’s December email inquiring about the person-to-person spread of the virus was ignored by the organization that further denied them adequate information about how to fight the virus.

(Of course China also won’t allow Taiwan into the WHO and the WHO bows to China again!)

Remember that Trump accused people like this hard-working doctor and her colleagues as the reason why NYC hospitals were short valuable PPE because it was "going out the back door."
Not surprising. He is a bully who like most bullies is also a coward. Remember this is a person who made up a medical condition to avoid serving his country during wartime. A truly vile character with no redeeming qualities.

Contrast that with this doctor, who is the only surviving parent to three children, going into the hottest zone on the planet to try and help her fellow Americans, risking her own life. Polar opposites.

I agree with 90% of this, Bryan. Unfortunately, the current "America First" policy doesn't support its allies like the ideal situation you described. Canada has been the brunt of trade tariffs/disputes (we're apparently a national security threat because of steel), Mexicans have been portrayed as rapists and killers that need to be separated by a wall (and some, I assume, are good people), Central American asylum families are being detained and separated from their children (not as an exception to the rule, but as a cruel deterrent; even when they are genuinely fleeing terrible situations), NATO destabilized by meaningless demands/threats and Trump snuggling up to Putin (who he believes over America's own intelligence community), and the list goes on...

The US and its NATO/Western democratic allies hurt totalitarian regimes, like China and Russia, by maintaining strong relationships with each other and encouraging trade. Like all things, there exists a spectrum of how to pursue global trade; one can both be against unchecked globalism, while still standing with and supporting one's allies. American isolation creates a power vacuum across the world that China will be more than happy to occupy.

I can not really respond to this post without upsetting the Americans on this board

all I will say is that I do not think Americans truly understand how badly the current administration is hurting their relationships with their allies. The problem is not their America first current system but it the manor of how they are doing it. They are not acting like the picture of democracy that they claim to but are acting like the school yard bully at lunch

Trade deals, the wall, illegal immigration, ICE detention facilities, NATO ... all things that are directly related to the corona virus and not political in any way. Maybe you should stick to saving the world from carbon emissions and leave the geopolitical theorizing to those better qualified?

this makes me sad

German zoo may have to feed animals to each other

I have grown to hate zoos but I know a few people who work in zoos and I feel bad for the guys that will have to kill perfectly, healthy animals that they have spent years looking after

I love zoo's, one of my sons favorite things was to visit the Honolulu zoo and if/when I take him out of state I'll be sure to take him to zoo's.

So those who are most likely to need the money...won't be able to get it?

One would hope so. But the US doesn't have the same pull in the world right now, Europe forever unlikely to make a stand and again playing a Neville Chamberlain role, and this just goes on. I'm actually more helpful today that Africa may have a better take on China today due to the racist reports we're seeing about China. Maybe some kind of consensus can happen but CCP controlling the UN, WHO, a number of countries.

WE lived through the cold war and theres times where this seems worse. By the 80's and with Chernobyl, the Communist regime was steadily eroding. Pressures all around it and at that time the US were in position to deal with Russia. Taking constant hard lines with Russia. Just don't see that from the USA so much with CCP, a country engaged in similar or worse atrocity.

Good luck with Africa - China practically owns it via their belt and road initiative.

Taiwan absolutely must get a seat at the table at WHO. That has to be one of the major learnings from this. It's very likely the next outbreak will originate in China again. The more eyes on them and the more skepticism vocal observers have, the better.

Also need to rebuild something like TPP so there can be coordinated sanctions on China. It's too bad Trump decided he had to tear down everything Obama ever touched. Something like TPP would be very useful going forward.

Still circling back to the climate change comments? I see it takes you awhile to get over grudges.

I even took you off of ignore recently to see if you are looking to pick the same fights, and the answer appears to be, yes.

Please feel free to ignore my comments if you don't like them.
