Just got home from Anaheim. My flight was like 60% full, no lines at security. Driving home was not a typical Friday night traffic. Was very light.

These are photos of the actual COVID-19 virus. In these photos, the virus is emerging from an infected cell. Eventually to spread and infect other cells. A virus enters a healthy cell and highjacks it with instructions to replicate more virions. They cannot replicate on their own. They need the inner workings inside a host cell. It's really diabolical.

Fortunately, our immune system has mechanisms to combat this. This includes killer cells that eat infected cells, the ability to create antibodies to identify the virus, and other mechanisms.

I have read with this virus you can get re-infected which is usually not the case with viruses. But it is still early,.. on what we know about this one.

This vid is from January. A 3D model of the spikes, that line the coronavirus virus, (made of proteins) is shown directly to the right of this scientist on the bottom shelf.

My mother is 60 and has respiratory issues. This virus could easily threaten her life. How can you sit there and say it wont kill you? You can infect an elderly person and essentially kill them...
Yeah. I am 58. With a chronic case of contracted fibrosis on my left lung. Coronary artery disease Involving atherosclerosis. Cardiovascular disease that led to 2 heart attacks in 2016. The origin of these fallacies are likely both accidental, hereditary and lifestyle related (climbing that corporate ladder to the top has its price). The media hype to the corona outbreak is both evident and unnerving. But something is real to all this.

Yet some of these comments here are so profoundly clueless, egocentric and immature it makes me want to strangle puppies... just saying

This is some Magic School Bus stuff up in here.

This virus is serious but it is not the black plague as the media would have you believe. There are people walking around that are infected who don't even know it because they have no symptoms. People need to stop with the bullshit that this is some sort of death sentence if you happen to contract it. Many people like Tom Hanks and his wife tested positive and are perfectly fine. Stop the hysteria.

Which is what makes this virus so dangerous. They may be infecting people with compromised immune systems or the elderly without even knowing it. Do you realize that the death rate in Italy is 6% because they have an elderly population! 600 times more fatal than the flu. As someone posted here earlier, Italian doctors in the north are making decisions on who they should treat and who should die.

Death panels?

Honest question here...... can anybody answer this?

why is there such a massive amount of fear, panic and media coverage with the covid 19 virus compared to H1N1. ( swine flu ) from 10 years ago?

H1N1 infected 60-80 million Americans. Killing 15- 20, 000 and sending 300,000+ to the hospital. Why was there no mass hysteria then? What the hell makes this coronavirus any more serious than that? It just doesn’t make sense to me, I mean I have my theories, but it just doesn’t make sense.

Good question, I’ve not really understood the difference either.

It’s a different virus family, this is the same family as sars, the swine flu was — I think — a more common type.

Its different sure, but I don’t know how different it can be in terms of ability to spread and infect. From what I read H1N1 was also very easily spread. I also read that most people under 60 actually didn’t have any anti-bodys for it and there was also no vaccine. so by that math, covid 19 is less deadly as it is really only deadly to elderly people and those with compromised immune systems.......almost the complete opposite of H1N1.

Again, why no mass hysteria then ?

That's an interesting question. I remember that here in Finland people were starting to worry/panic much like now with covid-19, especially with H1N1 being dangerous for kids. But then there was a vaccine and that was that. Many here were still in the "it's just a flu, nothing to worry about" phase when the vaccine came out. With covid-19 we seem to have passed that already.

Maybe the difference in reaction is due to how fast covid-19 has spread to multiple nations and how it has overwhelmed healthcare systems in places like Italy? I think your question might be the basis of multiple books and scientific articles in the coming years.
