Until you live outside of New York, you don't truly realize how densely populated the City is.

And while I appreciate the work the mods are doing to keep this non political, we sure have some people willing to blur that line to get their messaging across.

Many of us have been quiet while a few have blurred that line. In defense of all of us, most of our news comes from Politicians and occasionally a health expert.

best of health to all of us

One of my students and his family got it.

I haven't seen him since March 3rd so I'm in the clear, but it still feels completely different when it's someone in your life :(
My cousin's stepdaughter (who is a student in NYC, but had since returned home to rural Virginia) is feeling really ill. No word yet on whether or not she has it. My cousin herself – who, BTW, is a GP in the area – has gone for testing.

The reports have been all about the big cities, but it'll be everywhere within the next two weeks.

My sister in-law was tested yesterday. If she has it, my wife's entire family is at risk. My wife is absolutely petrified and I kind of am too...

It makes it real when it breaches your own world. I wish nothing but the best for your student and his family.

I don't pray much but sending my best vibes.

One drug that the Chinese have had at least some success with getting on top of their Coronavirus problem is Recombinant Human Interferon Alpha 2B--something developed by Cuban medicos and has been useful in the battle against Aids among other things. The Cubans are in Italy right now and there are calls throughout Europe and South America for Cuban help right now so that could be a very positive development.

Of course it's the Cubans and we've got all these sanctions against them again. If it does bring positive results though how could you turn down help or not even ask for it?

I think Trump got A LOT of heat for yesterday. He pretty much walked back everything, now suggesting Easter weekend as a more realistic date and will rely on Fauci and others. Also suggesting parts of the country could be opened before others, which Fauci actually backed which was surprising. :dunno:
I can buy that. New York is getting bad 3-4 weeks ahead so I think we'll be turning around 3-4 weeks ahead.

We'll have an elevated number due to density of course, but people can't be under the impression that this is just a New York problem. They have to be prepared and start distancing NOW.

10000%. Atlanta doesn't have quite the same density but we are on a high trajectory right now. I'm pretty disappointed that the Governor didn't shut down the state. At least the Mayor had the sense to close off the city of Atlanta for now.

Anywhere with a semi-high density is under the same risk as NY.

Easter weekend is still unrealistic — as is a date for anything other than revaluation, period, full stop. BUT, this IS better than yesterday. Whatever saves lives.

The caution I would offer is that the words of politicians are often delivered by media members with a very different political shading.

I'm actually not surprised. Suggested local easing (business, schools opening etc) was mentioned in the article I posted. Authorities will have to be agile in their response going forward. Agile and quick...not perfect.

I'm going to guess that somebody got into Trump's ear and mentioned that trying to open everything up next week to "save the economy" would have less of an impact than he thought economy wise and would result in possible worse case scenario health wise which would, in turn, then kill the economy anyways. Essentially he was probably told it would be presidential suicide.

last week’s full blown St Patrick’s celebration was off the charts. Complete denial of the risk.

I don't live in N.Y. but if Modi can lock down 1.8 billion Indians, maybe Cuomo should lock down New York? For 1-2 weeks at least?

Many people in general have a hard-on for Trump to make bad decisions. As if it validates their opinion that he is a bad President. Deciding in advance that he is going to fire Dr. Fauci, for example, or insist that States lift WFH mandates after 14 days. My point is to wait and see. You can still vote your heart's content on November 3rd.

As always crease, your levelheaded approach is appreciated.

I think the way that he has handled this from the get go has basically already done the job for him.

As others have said, today was a step in the right direction. He needs to STFU about Easter or whenever and stop trying to put a time line on this.

They're splitting our spring break. We get a few days in March coming up and then we get a few days in April.

They're saying it's to give faculty breaks to adjust to the changes but I don't buy that. I think it's to discourage students from going anywhere and I think it came straight from Cuomo because we're public.

No skin off my butt, I'm home anyway. If it keeps a few numbskulls off the beach, all the better.

Heard the Florida AG today say there are 100 flights a day from New York to Florida and they are telling all the passengers that they will have to self quarantine for 14 days.

How in the hell do you enforce this?
