And making this go away by August is only going to be achieved if we do what we need to do.

Not hiding out in f***ing bars with the lights off so the cops don't come like I saw last night on my way to get food.

I do think we haven't bottomed out yet.

I also think that depending on how the administration placates the masses, supports businesses, and offers bridges, we can slog through the next few months.

At some point, there likely will be additional economic stimulus packages following the more immediate measures.

FWIW the stimulus we got after the 2008 investment bank collapse very unevenly favored banks and corporations over actual people. They got bailed out and real people got foreclosed all over the country. It almost immediately came with a reaction on the right otherwise known as the tea party movement which was followed a couple years later by a reaction on the left otherwise known as the Occupy movement. Fact is the initial grievance of the Occupy movement was student debt which if anything is even worse today than it was back in 2011. So all this time and nothing and that's generally how it goes and if you want another example Flint Michigan and its water issue---how long ago did that all start?......and worse now than it was then. The people running our govt. in DC are very much out of touch with real people and younger people particularly are taking the brunt of this.

.....and back in 2008 it was the Obama administration whose level of competency compared to the Trump administration is light years better. I'm not interested in stimulating Wall St again. They and the super wealthy always manage to take care of themselves. I'm much more concerned about Main St. I'm also looking at a corrupt administration now and a Democratic nominee who might be on the verge of dementia--who at least some days seems confused and hardly capable of speaking and who on his best days is just more of the same.

One immediate place to go to is the military and military/industrial complex. We have over 1000 active overseas military bases--we have our endless regime change wars. We need to pull back and that's a place to start.

Living near SF, it's not as busy as it normally is but this morning there were still a lot of cars driving around with people going to work etc. Going outdoors for exercise is allowed so I was out riding my bike and hitting up the trails and there were maybe a few less people but still within the "normal" range out there. Saw what looked like a few people meeting for trail runs...can't really tell if they're adhering to the 6 foot policy but seems like a bad idea.

Basically...still a lot of people doing stuff even with a shelter in place order because there's enough leeway in it to allow such. It's hard to tell how much is people being careful and how much is people carrying on as usual.

Like I said I'll go out for exercise but solo or with my family, avoid people outside, and not go out for other reasons unless required. We took our kid out of daycare and basically have committed to having him home for the next 3 weeks which is going to be rough with two people who usually work full time but we'll make it work
See, I'm already doing this stuff without the Shelter in Place order. And I believe the people still ignoring the rules will continue to do so, but having less places for them to meet up as well as enforcement of the 6 foot rule for non-family members certainly helps.

Doing the shelter in place for the weekends is something I can see happening. Let's people work or commute to work, if needed, and allows them to close it all down when people are not working.

It would suck, but everyone should be avoiding everyone else anyway.

I'm the the San Francisco Bay Area. We're in complete shelter-in-place lockdown. No one that I am connected with in this area is questioning how serious this is. I read debates on this message board about how the media is exaggerating things and I really can't understand that. Is this a political argument? Because the outlook is pretty dire and out here we all recognize this and are attempting to do our part. Posting a few links here (sorry, not in the mood to figure out formatting).

Medium-case scenario modeling has the US suffering over 1,000,000 deaths, and hospitals completely overloaded.

The White House was treating this like a PR problem, not a health crisis.

Government-provided testing data, and it doesn't look good for the US.

Staying home and staying isolated can literally save lives. This isn't a joke or hyperbole. I would like to try to understand someone's point of view who thinks it's not serious enough to call for shelter-in-place though.

I find it hard to believe this is the player proposed schedule. That's a lot of hockey in a short amount of time

if they can't play until late july (which is possible) I think the season will just got canceled. no one wants it and its alot of $$ but at some point its the only logical conclusion...

Those models are close to worst case scenarios. Actual real data out of China where they are on the downslope of infection have 3200 dead, so figure they will top off at like 5000-6000 and that is in a country with 3 times the US population

"Real data out of China"

Lol

I'm extremely concerned for my parents, mostly my dad. He works in a high volume income tax office all day, every day. He's a smoker. He won't stay home because he's convinced he'll get fired if he does. I don't want to worry him. I'm f***ing going nuts right now. How do these criminals not postpone the f***ing tax deadline?

April 15 tax return filing will be postponed. You can bet on it. For how long - that's another question. My guess would be at least until June 15.

They didn't postpone the business deadline which is March 15 (the 16th on this year). Everyone had to file their 1065 or request an extension

Expect the same for 1040, they are not postponing April 15.

At best they will auto-submit the extension for you but you will still owe the full amount on time or face interest and penalties

Exactly. You can rest assured that the intelligence agencies have a decent idea about what’s really happening there though. If this shit was as under control as the public facing Chinese story is saying it is, the entire country would not be locked down.

I could swear I saw earlier today they are allowing a 90 day extension with no penalty.

Personal under 1M, 90 day extension on payment (no penalty), same filing deadline. Announced earlier today

"If you owe a payment to the IRS, you can defer up to $1 million as an individual — and the reason why we are doing $1 million is because that covers lots of pass-throughs and small businesses — and $10 million to corporations, interest-free and penalty-free for 90 days. All you have to do is file your taxes, you'll automatically not get charged interest and penalties," Mnuchin said."

In Response To Coronavirus, Mnuchin Confirms Tax Relief But Does Not Extend IRS Filing Season

(Had to find the exact quotes as it was misreported by multiple outlets today, probably going to change again before April 15th)

Do you truly believe that we're getting "actual real data out of China?"

Italy is a better model for us to look at, and their curve does not bode well for the USA. I sincerely hope you're correct, but I really doubt it.

Unlike corporations most people don’t file extensions. Also there was no country-wide mandate for isolation that I think will be in place in the next 2-3 which is right around the filing deadline.

next we’ll read the teams eliminated from the playoffs can start the next regular season schedule while the remaining teams can continue the playoffs from the current/previous season.

A lot is being made of the testing issue, but tests need to be tailored to a specific virus. We didn't know this existed 4 months ago. Preparing for testing down the road is nearly impossible. What can we do to prevent this from happening again?

We desperately need to raise this red bar. By a lot.
