What percentage of people would you estimate are anti-vaxxers and are putting the rest of the vulnerable people at risk? If it was 30-40% I could see everyone's point...but its probably in the low single digits as a percentage. I am not an antivaxxer...I am just saying the reason behind why people get mad at them is not as simple as the vulnerable people need to be protected...its more nuanced than that because if you or your kids are vaccinated...how would they transmit it from an unvaxxed person to someone vulnerable? Doesn't it get stopped in its tracks when it runs into someone with immunity?

it’s not single digits , not getting it.

In the US, a survey showed in September 39.4% say they would get the vaccine
Survey redone in December , now just below 50% say they will.
Using your own words, since % below your threshold, you now see it the other way, right.

are you getting it?

Your qualifications would be what exactly to disparage someone else?

See, this is the problem with society today. If I don't agree with a professional in a certain field that he (not I) is an expert in...I just say he is wrong. That attitude is putting us on the road to ruin if we keep it up.

He's not an infectious disease specialist and has no idea what he's talking about. Just because he has letters behind his name doesn't make him an expert in every subject and deserves to be listened to.

Wow...care to elaborate on my emotional state? What did I say that you disagree with? My hypothesis was actually borne out of watching 2 evolutionary biologists discuss this very situation on their podcast and what they both said could be the underlying reason. I guess Brett Weinstein is uneducated according to your worldview.

Bret Samuel Weinstein is an American philosophical evolutionary biologist who came to national attention during the 2017 Evergreen State College protests. He is a member of the informal group known as the intellectual dark web.

Seriously. It's like asking a physicist to come do the electrical in your home, instead of an electrician. Why would you do that??

He actually admitted he was lying when he said we could achieve herd immunity with 60-70% ...he flat out said he did that to give us hope and now upped it to the 80%+ range. He also lied when he said masks were useless because we couldn't be trusted to not hoard all the PPE at the beginning of this outbreak. He lies for our own benefit...so I guess that's ok...:D

Wouldn't the % of population that determines herd immunity depend on the density of the community? I would suspect that the % needed to get to herd immunity in NYC is higher than in Chevak. Alaska. There is no magic number that fits for every community.

Yes...how stupid of me to think a person who actually studies how virus and other pathogens along with everything else EVOLVE would know anything about this subject. Your 'whataboutism' is too much. Who exactly is allowed to speak on this subject besides an epidemiologist?

I, for one thing, in my original post NEVER said I agreed with anti-vaxxers....but yet you think I am one...it's funny how quick people are to attack when they sense something.

It May be true if you don't allow travel between 2 disparate communities...but we do..so it would have to be a number that blankets everyone comfortably.

Are we talking Fauci? He's an Immunologist and Physician and Director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Found this little tidbit on Fauci:
In 2003, the Institute for Scientific Information stated that from 1983 to 2002, "Fauci was the 13th most-cited scientist among the 2.5 to 3 million authors in all disciplines throughout the world who published articles in scientific journals.

No one is an expert on every subject but this dude is the top of the top of top of scientists in regards to infectious diseases.

I think this Covid-19 situation is complicated, when he gives a number, think he is trying to dumb down his understanding of Covid-19, you can't speak in absolutes for this virus, every community is different and it really comes down to the ecosystem you live in, what happens in Istanbul (death rates/ infection rates) has no direct bearing on what happens in my city, you can quote numbers meant to be directional but some communities have more seniors, some have better hospitals, some have more density, some have less, thousands of variables that Fauci can't possible give one number for all... it's meant to be taken as directional not absolute.

Talking about Bret Weinstein

What ever became of the property? Did the French buy it as well or just the infrastructure. I haven't been there in decades but it was trulymassive and located in Willlowdale. At least the same size as 2 city blocks if I'm remembering correctly. Perhaps a dozen buildings maybe more.
French took all vaccines and moved to France

Highest number of cases in over a month recorded today, the first day out of lockdown. How many see the decision makers blaming the reopening for this new developing surge. Afterall they couldn't have cases surging while under lockdown.

Toronto is the only city in the province coming out of full lockdown. So probably not.

Toronto and Peel which may be close to half the population of Ontario. Obviously, the surge has nothing to do with today's reopening. I'm just saying we have a ringside seat where down the road people will report the reopening was the cause.

In GTA/Peel we are getting a couple hundred kids a day (with only 5% testing) with virus at schools which have been opened a couple weeks now ... bottom line it is far worse then that if they did da rapid test at each school ... again we are doing this crap to ourselves it is so so obvious ... but we will throw da small businesses under da bus again as results worsen in 3rd wave ... wait and see ... da whole thing is a complete joke with people trying to force schools to stay open

When the lockdown plan doesn't work, one has to come up with an exit plan. Smoke and mirrors.

For those that think there is some grand conspiracy, therefore we should junk the mitigation plans, man this must be a stressful time? Or that the politicians are bunch of stooges, man this must be a terrible stressful time. I don't get the constant paranoia but hey I guess some people know more than the rest of us and have reason to be upset? Ignorance is bliss I guess ...

I'm not stressed out about this virus, maybe it's because I/ my family could survive, if the supply chain stopped tomorrow. I got a full butcher shop of fresh meat 100 yards off my back porch, all the deer, bear, moose, rabbit , duck, you could eat. All the wild blue berries, raspberries and strawberries with in 1km walk from my house. Trout fishing just a stones throw from my house, literally less then 10 minute walk.

Is it time to take a deep breath and just stop the bitching, complaining, paranoia, conspiracy talk and just ride this thing out?

Lol Toronto and Peel are not half of Ontarios population. Peel has around 1.4M and Toronto 2.9M so lets say 4.5M. Ontarios population is over 14.5M so maybe 1/3rd of the population.

Sorry im nitpicking here but its because buddies in Toronto and Peel are complaining about the lockdown. I have zero problem with that as I disagree with the lockdown. However, I get annoyed when they act like the entire province is shut down. Halton, York, Durham, Hamilton, KW, Niagara are millions of people in the Golden Horseshoe that are not currently lockdown. Its the "centre of the universe" so if its not open in Peel/Toronto it must not be open anywhere else which is annoying.

They said it was a data catch-up. Just saying.

Metro Toronto has a population of 6.2 million. It is metro toronto which is shutdown.

Google population of metro Toronto then google a map of metro Toronto. Peel does have a population of 1.5 million. Actually peel region is in much worse shape than Toronto when you look at incidence rate per 100,000, yet their mayor is advocating for red zone

Makes no sense to shutdown Toronto and Peel but leave the nearby regions open. The ramps to the 400 at the 401 were backed up this weekend. Either people were going to their cottages or york region IMO.
