When my wife's doctor told her a couple weeks ago that COVID is going to be with us forever, morphing over the years, she felt more at ease about the whole thing after hearing that.

The old expression, "Just give it to me straight Doc." some people are equipped to deal with things that way.

Last 7 days Florida is #8 in cases per million, based on their governors propensity to fudge numbers they are probably closer to the top spot.

We know he fired a whistle blower for telling the truth, we know he is crooked as they come.

The putting elderly back in homes thing, there is a public record that said his directive, its in black and white you can read it online, LTC cannot refuse admission of a resident if they receive a clean bill of health form their doctor, that is it that is all. The depths you right wingers go to to manipulate and lie astound me.

My mom and dad say same thing ... they have been wintering in Naples for past 10 years except this winter due to COVID and dad is a Republican and mom a Democrat supporter ... but they add state is a very polarized place and discussions of politics are as heated as they come with rich being Republican and middle class poor are Dems ... compared to a state like Connecticut where it is Democratic yankee blue as blue goes and most of rich people are Dems

This is most peoples life experience , save a few sheltered less informed people on this forum that feel Florida is different.

End of the day yesterday the USA has pricked 25% of their population. Canada is at 5% But Trudeau says dont compare us to the USA, they had it worse then us so they should finish ...... before us?

I agree to an extent, especially as health care workers and seniors have been overwhelmingly targeted and so close to all folks actually headed out will not be vaccinated. There is tremendous pressure throughout the states to get the economy open as fast at possible I think once the more vulnerable populations have been rapidly vaccinated. Its not just due to pure economics and not as heartless as it looks either. The collateral damage of the lockdowns has not yet been calculated with many families left economically ruined and spikes in crime and hard drug use, not to mention the effects this nightmare has had on many folks mental health. I'm not sure myself what the right answer is really but I just want this to all go away now and the vaccines are rolling out far too slowly in Canada for my liking.

I get the strong feeling this was all worked out already. Canada is going slow now but are going to ramp up significantly over the next month as the high danger folks down south have already been vaccinated, almost to the point we have too many vaccinations.

I just want my at risk family members to get their vaccinations right now most of all.

I actually dont blame that many politicians around the world (outside of China) as I think this whole situation was passed over to the eggheads who take care of this thing as quickly as possible, with the possible exception of maybe the mayor of New York.

What we need to do as a country is learn from this and be self reliant in case of another outbreak. If that means finding a compromise in the guise of corporate welfare for private drug manufacturers to be ready to jump on this strictly for us (I feel kinda dirty writing that) or some other solution, then so be it.

As far as private long term care goes, I'm not sure what the solution is there. Maybe we can start with more "adult" children taking care of their parents a little better. I would visit my Gran before she passed at a home in Toronto a couple of years ago and it was so sad to see and hear the stories from other residents about how their families would never come to see them or help them out.

I'm guessing you don't read for understanding the LTC issue with Cuomo I was referencing was during the 1st wave, nut jobs were saying he is forcing LTC to take people with Covid, which if people read the memo sent to LTC facilities, its is pretty clear the policy said the opposite.

And does not eliminate the need for masking.

Pretty funny seeing people comment “Thank you for keeping me safe, you’re a hero” under pictures of people getting their vaccine.

They’re literally doing it for themselves, not you

Common theme through this pandemic though. Media comes out with many many news stories saying one thing, it gets engrained in everyone’s head and then scientists come and out and debunk it but there’s never multiple news stories for the correction.

ie. Masks protect you from the virus
ie. Vaccines will protect other people from you. You get it and you’re saving other people.

So many people believe those things to be true when they’re not

It’s about hospital metrics and those who are prone to severe illness. They have vaccinated a lot of the vulnerable and LTC residence. That and the seasonality should prevent them from overburdening the hospitals.

They have been open since Sept.
