Maybe also consider that other causes of deaths (car accidents etc) are down because people have been staying home more often. Same as deaths from the flu going down as a byproduct of covid restrictions.

So logically, if you're in favour of lockdowns over Covid, you must be in favour of locking down over "car accidents, etc.", right? Because, you know, if it saves just one life...

I'm in favour of things that prevent fatalities from car accidents like seatbelts, speed limits etc, yes.

So why don't we shut the highways until all car accident deaths are stopped? Why don't we close all fast food chains and convenience stores until all heart disease and diabetes illnesses/deaths are prevented?

Because covid restrictions (masks, social distancing, hand washing) also stop the spread of the flu

So (at the risk of being repetitive), why don't we have lockdowns and mask laws over the flu which kills 8,000 Canadians every year?

If we're willing to destroy our economy and spend $400B over one affliction, why not others? Show me the difference. 700-800 people die in this country every day. An order of magnitude more than Covid deaths. Many could be prevented with similar measures we've put in place due to Covid.

There is no room for logic in the alarmists world.

Why are we still going on and on about lockdowns? Toronto and Peel are not the only part of Ontario. The rest of us are open for business.
Hey i think everyone should slam on a mask, wash up and keep your distance in public. Lockdowns are only on small businesses. End of story. The rest of business owners in that area are cowards. Yellow people. Thats my take on it. I hope they all go under or grow a set.
The big box just motoring along with corporate politicians isn’t it. Not right, not fair and not changing my mind. All they can do now if roll out untested, unsafe vaccines in order to get out the hole they dug themselves.

This is a stupid line of questioning but ok.

There is a difference between a pandemic that is indiscriminate by virtue of participating in society and voluntary activities (like driving, smoking, fast food) where there is assumed degree of risk.

And yes, things like masks and social distancing are probably here to stay during flu season.

And we do spend millions to try to prevent the other forms of death. We spend millions on traffic enforcement, promoting healthy eating/lifestyles, public health etc.

You make some good point here and there, but this? This is a HUGE no. Unless I misunderstood you. Are you saying that, from now on, Covid or not, we should strive to wear masks and social distance for flu season? (November to March)

It's possible. I bet the plexiglass partitions at cashier terminals and service counters will remain permanently.

Yes. I'm certain that will happen and I don't see the problem with that.

Maybe by choice, but if covid isn’t around no f***ing way are they going to keep forcing to people to where masks.

Wearing masks....okay. If by choice, of course. Social distancing every year? I'm sorry, that's a huge problem. For sports, entertainment, retail, families, friends, schools...the list is endless. Come on man. Don't get extreme with your viewpoint.

I'm talking primarily about masks.

Edit: And by social distancing, I'm referring more to things like allowing more working from home arrangements, less face-to-face meetings, barriers between customers and employees etc

I really hope the masks and distancing and all the other Covid precautions go the way of the dodo once we're beyond the Covid threat. These are small sacrifices to make in a pandemic but this is no way to live under normal circumstances. Human interaction and connection are still important and have been slipping in recent times too much to begin with!

This is what I am trying to tell people, the government mismanaged this thing from the beginning.

If you only read some of the posters in this thread, you'd think all businesses are locked down and the government is trapping us all in our homes a gunpoint.

I don't know about you guys, but my life is basically unchanged except for having to wear a mask when I go out. I don't even get wtf these guys are whining about. Basically everything is open.
