Emmy. Yeah, no idea what that was about. Shows how politicized this discussion is.

Agreed. The unfortunate thing is i don't think the government has much of a plan beyond what you've explained. They are going to keep doing half measure and just wait for the vaccine to hopefully arrive in massive quantities. There is no real plan B or anything like that.IMO the biggest problem is half measures. Doing enough to kill small business but not halt the virus is the problem. Strict short term lockdown and supporting business/individuals on the other end would be better, I think.
I'm a chef, and honestly, I'm tired of the media and public using us as some sort of pity party with this pandemic. We were always underpaid, overworked and got very little respect and nobody cared. Now everyone is crying? We'll survive, as we always have. Its hilarious to us that people are so sensitive about our industry suddenly, as we slave over our 500 degree stoves, making incredible food, yet you'll complain that there was a pinch too much of seasoning and tip next to nothing, if anything at all. Stop using us as pawns. Same with those who stock shelves at grocery stores or work at fast food joints. We've all been given a shit sandwich here, and we're all taking a big bite.?

Care to elaborate? This is an interesting and odd take.
who is using chefs and grocery store workers as a pity party?
Care to elaborate?
The pity party is the media bringing up the industry every day. Just watch the news. And we're absolutely pawns right now. We're the puppies with Sarah Mclachlan playing in the background. We've become the tacky human interest story every day in the media. What's the pity party and how are you being used as pawns? Yes, the employees of such industries get shit on way more than they should or deserve. I stocked shelves in a grocery store before and my dad has worked in the restaurant industry his entire life -- I would know. If anything, this highlights the importance of the restaurant and grocery retailer industries and of its employees.

I'm not sure if you're aware that most people, even people with plenty of experience, barely make above minimum wage. Sous chefs making $16/hr isn't unheard of.Had it occurred to you things are going to get much worse for you soon? I guarantee your wages aren't going to increase if half the industry goes out of business. And right now, that looks like a very real probability.

Sorry (honestly), that sucks. My point is, things won't be getting better. Unemployment will be a lot more likely than those wages improving if things keep going how they are.
I think lockdowns should end and we develop better testing like rapid tests and antibody tests. Clearly the population is done with lockdowns so lets find a safe alternative. If everyone started doing rapid tests id imagine it would work better than lockdowns

No they probably won't adhere to lockdown restrictions but if they have do where to go they limit how many people in public they can spread Covid too. This is unfortunately when a few people mess it up for everyone else.
I agree the regional approach works as long as you get people to stay in their region. There isn't enough police to patrol that. Its not just people to blame either. GTA has been in grey for awhile now and yet bus trips from Toronto to the outlet mall in Niagara is allowed.Ya, I’m not sure of the best way to tackle that. If the lockdowns in the GTA were justified, I don’t think it’s right that those people were traveling to other areas to shop, eat at restaurants, or whatever else they were doing. Defeats the purpose, and maybe something like that needs to be enforced somehow. Bomber mentioned that in Niagara businesses are asking for people to prove their place of residence. I think that’s a good practice at face value. I don’t think the spread outside the GTA warranted a province wide lockdown.
I was mostly ok with the regional restrictions overall. The colour codes were a good idea. Other than grey, most if not all businesses were allowed to continue to operate. But there needs to be some enforcement against those traveling to avoid certain restrictions. I think if you take care of that problem, we have the foundation set for a good response plan. But these blanket province wide lockdowns based on projection models that have been wayyyy off literally every single time, are simply ridiculous and do lasting harm.
Great analogy. The pity party is the media bringing up the industry every day. Just watch the news. And we're absolutely pawns right now. We're the puppies with Sarah Mclachlan playing in the background. We've become the tacky human interest story every day in the media.

We have the vaccine. Now there's a mutated strain just in time! Rinse and repeat.Agreed. The unfortunate thing is i don't think the government has much of a plan beyond what you've explained. I havn't heard one way or the other if the vaccine is still affective against the new strain, but if it isn't then all this is for naught..
72 hours of banning flights won't stop it for arriving here. Then as you say, we can start from scratch again
