Why can't we force all our politicians and experts who keep pushing for never ending restrictions and shutdowns to take a fat cut to their paychecks so that they can share the pain that most other people are suffering right now? Donate all those funds to charity if they wish, but there's no reason why they should be earning full paychecks while so many people are being forced to suffer needlessly.

I say this in a kind way so don't take it wrong: I bet you didn't. Did you stay in a separate room away from your family for 2 weeks, using a separate bathroom and depend completely on others to bring you food, etc.?

Because those are the recommendations. No one did this. I'd bet everything on it. So when people preach to others because they only 80% comply with the covid measures instead of 90%, I chuckle a little inside. Feels exactly like the global warming stuff.
And you would be making a bad bet then. I rented an apartment. People dropped off groceries. The apartment had a kitchen. I watched hockey. It was no big wup. I know several people that did this. Presumptuous of you to make assumptions. The rant was weird too.

Is Durham Region going into lockdown on Sunday? Everyone is talking about it.

Rumours running wild that a lot of the province is going to be shut down very soon.

I think theres a few things at play here possibly causing some confusion and speculation.

1 - The Ontario Hospital Association wants a 4 week province wide shutdown. They of course dont have the ability to mandate anything, its just what they are suggesting.

2 - The Minister of Education told teachers to prepare students for not coming back to school after the Christmas break. They haven't acted on this yet, but thats a pretty big warning sign IMO.

I’m fully expecting a province wide lockdown. Not saying I agree with it but it’s sorta becoming more obvious. I’m planning work for the new year with this in mind. I still have to be on the road and this makes things tricky but I figured it out during the first lockdown so I have a decent idea what to plan for this time around.

I hope they stop the mass evictions and more money to people or it’s going to be bloody shutting things down

The issue with this is that we will have many more outbreaks if only the high risk people get the vaccine. The disease will likely never go away and we have many more people die (healthy people die too). For example, measles is still hanging around because of people not getting vaccinated.

Im a 27yo male, 150lbs, and no allergy or medical issues. Despite this, I realize that if I (and many other people in my demographic) dont get the vaccine that many more people will die.

It isnt just about an individuals health... this DOESNT work if we dont have the vast majority of the population take the vaccine. I hope you and others change your mind by the time it is available to the general public...

This thing could still be significant in 5 years if we only have 50% of the population vaccinated which would still likely cause a lot of deaths.

Can I ask why you are worried about vaccines and not about long term health effects from catching covid? We know less about long term health implications from catching it than we do about any potential issues from vaccines. Vaccine tech has been around for a long time and this vaccine is based on past vaccine production, it isnt like its a brand new vaccine that has no scientific basis before 2020.

Think of how crazy these numbers have been... if 50% get vaxxed and then we go back to our regular schedule, we will probably have just as many cases due to less social distancing.

From someone who had COVID, I’m more concerned about the long term effects of the vaccine than COVID at this point

Alberta is on shutdown, but business is open to 15% of capacity.

15% ... almost like private shopping.

We will see, it really is up to people to stop the spread.

I bet there are people who don't know that you can only get the virus when you are in contact with other people who have the virus. I think this is the confusion. So when a case is reported it is based on coming into contact with the virus, it doesn't come through your keyboard, and it doesn't sneak into your house while you are sleeping. And it can't leap over a skyscraper.

I'll take your word for it but I still say you're the minority. My "rant" was edited in your post and the original completely deleted by mods but I didn't really see it as a rant, I thought it was a good analogy over people preaching to others because their lifestyle or behaviour is marginally better. No idea what was controversial about that but we do live in sensitive times.

Unfortunately it is inevitable that Ontario will lockdown province wide as it did in the spring. Timing is everything for these politicians.

Christmas shopping season is complete short as of Monday 3 days. They can turn back and say we left things open as long as we could to help business's and the people of Ontario. We are heading into a quiet time between Christmas and the New Year.

Schools wont come back until sometime in March if any. This will be extended as cases will continue to rise.

If we remember back in March when this all started, the lockdowns and business closures lasted longer then anyone thought as the numbers still rose.

Brace yourselves for another lock down to about Easter if not more.

Do you have the same stats by month?

I'm just curious as one who has been working an extra day per week for the same money for several months I can tell you it does drag on you, especially when it isn't getting better, and now add the additional tasks in managing the vaccines and related reported data for all of this.

People wear out.

how much money will the government have to pay out to make this happen?

They sure as better hope the lockdowns work this time. And I wish there was a way for those calling for hard lockdowns (politicians, hardcore Liberals, those with cushy jobs working from home) to feel the pinch monetarily because of them.

My fear is they shut things down for the next 4 weeks, with schools extending the Christmas break by at least two weeks (it is going to happen). We'll see the post-Christmas surge from the gatherings that will happen despite the plea they don't. Then the numbers will slowly tail off. Then the powers that be will pat themselves on their backs for bringing the numbers down through these hardcore lockdowns. All the while -- More jobs lost. More businesses closed. More people requiring government support.

Then they slowly open things up again. Cases start to creep up again with the loosening of restrictions. Then we wonder if it was really worth shutting things down for at least a month as opposed to proceeding cautiously with restrictions in place as we have been as we realize "COVIDZero" is an impossibility. Rinse and repeat.

No, just sharing something posted by the news editor at AM640 in Toronto this morning. They are owned by Global and have taken a hard left over the last few years ago I doubt they'd provide a conspiracy theory fake stat so I felt confident sharing it.

But I didn't know you were in healthcare (thank you by the way). Are you saying your experience is different and that ICUs are busier this year? Very curious.

I really do think Ford is doing everything he can to keep business somewhat open so he does not have to spend that 12 billion he has to support them
I agree. They have been trying to balance the economy and Covid. I think they have done an ok job, not great by no means. I fully believe him when he says he doesn't want to lock things down again. He just has not much of a choice. He can't stop people from getting together in private so they have tried to control how much time people are in public.

Yes cases will rise with people staying in and spreading it at home. Hopefully it will eventually slow down and when they do re open they can do better contact tracing and keep the numbers low.

Here is the email I got when I was in quarantine. They also called (telephoned) me.

COVID-19: Emergency Order to isolate/ Décret d’urgence d’isolement obligatoire

Info COVID-19 (PHAC/ASPC)

You are receiving this email from the Government of Canada because you recently traveled to Canada.

Staying in quarantine will help slow the spread of COVID-19 in Canada. Limiting the spread ensures that the rate of infection doesn’t rise too quickly in a population and overwhelm the health care system.
  • Remember that during your mandatory 14-day quarantine period there are things you must do to protect others:
  • Do not leave home unless it’s to seek medical care.
  • Maintain a two-metre distance from others (physical distancing) at all times.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Cough or sneeze into the bend of your arm or into a tissue.
  • Do not have visitors to your home or place of isolation.
  • Arrange to have groceries and supplies dropped off at your door to minimize contact.
  • Do not share personal items with others, such as toothbrushes, towels, bed linen, utensils or electronic devices.
  • Avoid contact with individuals with chronic conditions, compromised immune systems and older adults.

It is very important that you quarantine for the full 14 days to reduce the spread of COVID-19. If you develop symptoms of COVID-19 during the quarantine period, immediately contact a health care professional or public health authority and start over your 14 day mandatory quarantine period.

The Government of Canada may be calling to monitor compliance with mandatory quarantine. We ask that you please answer calls from 1-888-336-7735.

Everyone has a role to play to protect Canadians from COVID-19. Thank you for helping limit the spread of COVID-19.
