I take the 2023 pick because I’ve heard it’s another 2003/2015 type of deep draft.

Although the 2022 is also intriguing because some good players will probably slide this year because of COVID making players harder to scout
I think you wait and see how it plays out after the playoffs wrap up.

Had to work for a while, fell behind.
See the return posted now and my first reaction is that it is not bad at all.

The other Barron
Two conditional 2nds and the conditions are not bad. Possible upgrade of one to a 1st.
plus a 5th.

Reasonable return at this stage IMO, but:

Copp was speculated to return a 1st rd pick, he got two 2nd rd picks and a bottom 6 or 4th line prospect. One of those 2nd converts to a 1st rd pick if the Rangers get to the 3rd rd.

If the rangers don't make the 3rd rd and/or Barron doesn't make the bottom six and sticks........Jets did slightly/hair below average here IMO. I'm just luke warm on this return, not terrible but I'm a bit doubtful it turns into a good return........more just OK in my eyes.

I was prepaired to be disappointed, but turns out I'm not.

- There's a chance that one 2nd turns into a 1st.
- Barron is an interesting reclamation project who maybe can turn into a Copp replacement.
-6th round turns into a 5th (meh)

I don't know how likely the Rangers will be able to get into the 3rd round, but maybe this year's 2nd can allow us to go up in the 1st round.

A 2023 2nd round could be good value if it turns out to be as deep as some think.

All in all, I think we did okay. We were buyers and sellers, so not too much for me to complain about.

Morgan Barron? He's a F lmao.

We don't need a Dman unless he is a RHS with strong top 4 potential.

Barron could be an upgrade somewhere in our bottom 6.
Scored at a ppg clip last year in his first pro season. Fell off quite a bit this year, for some reason. Will the real Morgan Barron please stand up.

Can he be assigned to the Moose today and be PO eligible? Or is it already too late?

Disappointing return, for sure, but much better than keeping Copp as an own rental

I'm not that disappointed. The prospect is a bit of a project. The picks give us 2 pretty good shots at a decent player. The upgrade to a 1st might be a coin toss, but at least it is a chance.

Faced with nothing... with a team that would go nowhere in the playoffs...

I am Ok with this trade...

The Rangers making the Conference Final is a bit of a pipedream, but adds a bit of intrigue I guess for us Jets fans...

Good luck in New York Andrew and thanks for giving us some cheers...

The Jets still have some real work to do in the off season...

Even if Chevy hits homeruns with the two 2nds... they are years away...

Morgan is a possible player if the Ranger fans are right... 3rd or 4th line material...

The Jets need to do something to change the lack of real leadership... Coaching is the biggest problem and most likely a "prominent leader" leaving this summer in order to change the dynamic "In The Room"...

This trade is for 2 years from now...

OK....a complicated deal for the Jets. Let us pray for the Rangers to make the conference finals, and for Copp to be in good health. Otherwise, not the best of a return.
All the other GM's knew Copp wasn't staying a Jet after this year, i think Chevy did well and i like the idea of injecting some new blood in this lineup. We need some change here.

2 picks and a prospect versus losing Copp for nothing, Chevy did about as good as he could

Going back a little way, I was hoping for something like a 1st +. The plus being something like a 4th or 5th or a C prospect.

What we got was the C prospect (maybe C+?), plus the 5th and two 2nds instead of 1 first. The 2 seconds could >= a late 1st and there is the chance to upgrade one of them to a 1st.

That all adds up to more than I was hoping for (other than hoping for the other Barron from Col which, it turns out wasn't quite realistic).

Our system has gotten pretty thin at F. We have added 1 who should be an improvement on what we have in the A now plus 3 picks. A good start at strengthening our system.

I guess it's an ok haul?
2 2nds are nice I guess. But we've basically done nothing of note in the 2nd round as far as netting quality nhl players. Maybe we can trade them for players next seasons. Hopefully NYR wins a couple rounds to turn one into a 1st, although the East will be a blood bath.

We haven't done that well with 2nds. About time for our luck to turn. :naughty:

I don't remember the exact numbers but the success rate on picks drops off pretty sharply after about #20. By 25 it is almost flat for quite a long way. I think the difference between a late 1st and an equally late 2nd is not all that high. Two of those late 2nds might add up to better odds than the single late 1st.

Of course, if 1 of them upgrades to a 1st, so much the better. I don't mind the bet on NYR winning 2 rds. I can't put a number on the odds, but it is not out of sight.

Why is it Copp goes wherever Trouba goes?

Making me root for the Rangers considering it means we get their first if they make the ECF.

Rangers fan here who’s been following Morgan Barron since his Cornell days. (He’s even my pfp)

I am a little annoyed we gave him up in addition to 2 2nd round picks. We haven’t gave him a legit chance. As a rookie in the AHL he played as Hartford’s 1C and went PPG. Has a good all around game and is a solid skater. He became well liked pretty quickly in the locker room and I think can be a leader. His shot is his best attribute. I would’ve preferred to move Chytil over him. Barron could be a 3C staple for a team
