Not surprised, they've flown by on goaltending all year. With even average goaltending they're barely a wild card team. That could improve in the next 20ish games but if they get to the 3rd round it's all on Shesterkin.

They're 19-20 Jets on steroids. Goaltending, shooting talent (and special teams), get smacked around 5v5.

Real good move from the Rangers perspective that tops off a hell of a TDL. Motte, Vatrano and Copp shore up the bottom lines and are insurance if Kakko can't return from the wrist injury and Braun should replace Nemeth. Going out are Barron, 2 2ds, a 3d and a 4th over 2022 and 2023. The team continues to get tougher to play against while adding more skill to the bottom lines. With the Rangers finishing near the top of the league, the picks aren't going to be very high.

Sad to see Copp go, but I don't mind the return at all. Was hoping for more of a bidding war and a huge over payment, but I'll take it for an expiring UFA who wasn't going to sign with the Jets.

FWIW, Barron is the same age as Nathan Smith and had a similar or better career at the College level at a younger age. Different type of player but I am still intrigued to see what kind of upside, if any, he has. Even if he turns out to be a replacement level player, it's still a fairly good return.

He was often paired with Adam Lowry on the 3rd line. Made an effective duo.

I would say he can play 3c well, but is more of a 2LW if on the 2nd line. But you don't want him there for more than a game or two.

Never could handle 2C well IMO.

Barron was great at every level until he got to the Rangers. Sort of like Lafreniere. And Kakko. And Kravtsov.

I think it's a win for all involved. The Rangers get a polished forward while they figure out what the f*** is wrong with themselves. Barron gets a change of scenery. The Jets get a good prospect.

Barron is a bit older for a prospect so I hope he has enough runway to turn it around. I was leery about picking up a prospect who was already in the Rangers system given their inability to develop forward prospects
