Essentially. There will be an additional forward needed and a decision made on Sauer, who'll also be an RFA next season but will not have played in what, 2 years? A retirement decision will be upon him. Unlikely Rangers re-sign him unless he is feeling 95% better.

Stepan should get roughly $2.5M. Hagelin roughly $2M. Bridge contracts I'd guess. McDonagh will get a long term deal in the neighborhood of 5yr/$20M. Definitely doable.

Subban's deal will impact what Mac gets. Same draft year....similar production, similar NHL experience.

Subban's improved defensively. I dont think the gap is as big as people think. I'd take McDonagh 10 out of 10 but they are definitely comparable players.

Just pray the Habs dont act a fool and break the bank for a guy who really hasnt proven himself yet. My guess is Subban get 3-3.5

I'm not calling Subban poor defensively or anything like that. I'm just saying that McDonagh is clearly the superior player defensively. The gap may not be too big, but it's big enough where I think he should definitely get at least a few hundred thousand more.

Stepan is a tricky one, but I think he'll get what DZ got and change - unless he really tears it up this season with 40+ points (doubt it). Hagelin will also be an interesting case, because he will start the season on the 1st line, but if Kreider becomes this monster 95% of the fans expect him to become then Hagelin could eventually be "demoted" to the 3rd line.

I really don't worry about the cap charges in general, because the team has every possible scenario calculated.

If you look on the first post this thread a bit down on the page - I analyze the 2nd contracts Sather has been giving ou t to the homegrown boys after their ELCs. You might wanna take a peak, but your numbers are very close to mine.
 
2 year bridge contract for Stepan. He will get more than Dubinsky and Anisimov got. Patrik Berglund of the Blues got 2 years/$4.5M for a bridge contract in 2011. He had 125 points in his first 3 years. STL gave David Perron 2 years/$4.3M as a bridge contract in 2010. 124 points in his first 3 years. The Blues gave Erik Johnson 2 years/$5.2M in 2010. DZ got 2 years/$5.1M. Stepan has 96 points in his first 2 years. The Rangers will look to hold the line with Stepan. He is not arbitration eligible. The Rangers will not have Wade Redden's $6.5M clogging up the summer cap. They will match any offer sheet.

I myself predict around $2,5M for Stepan, $2,0M for Hagelin & $4,3M for McDonaugh. The 1st 2 contracts will likely 2 year bridge contracts a la Sather - the 3rd one similar to Marc Staal (over 5 years). Will doubtlessly be interesting to follow... Now just drop the puck!
 
mcdonagh was signed when he was 21, so he should need 4 years of pro service. this will be only his 3rd year...or am i missing something?
 
How are two-way contracts going to count during the off-season? Their cap hit is prorated to the amount of days they were on the roster, but with this season being 99 days instead of 185, how will it work?

Thanks for explaining out some of the cap scenarios . It can be mind boggling some days trying to keep on top of it ! I'm sure many others like myself feel the same way . :handclap:

As one of only three returning players from Team USA’s disastrous 2012 world juniors, Miller had more than enough ammunition to get him pumped for Ufa this year. And with part of a campaign playing against men in the American League behind him, the young power forward came correct with nine points in seven games, tying him for the team lead with Jacob Trouba and Johnny Gaudreau en route to a gold medal.

“It was nice getting to play guys my own age for a bit and just get some confidence back,†Miller said.

Because he was drafted out of the U.S. National Team Development Program, Miller was allowed to hit the AHL as a teenager, something he could not have done if he had started his junior career in Plymouth, where he played last season in the Ontario League. Life in the ‘A’ has been tough and satisfying.

“It took me awhile to adjust there, plus I went from wing to center, but it was one of the best leagues in the world to play in when the lockout was on,†he said. “It’s really good competition, I love it.â€

Miller has tallied 16 points through 32 games and at times has gone on nice offensive runs for several games. Not bad for one of the youngest players in the league. With the end of the NHL lockout clawing back some of the talent that normally wouldn’t have been in the AHL, the Ohio native will be one of the better prospects to watch down there for the rest of the season. Drafted 15th overall by the New York Rangers in 2011.

Players signing their first SPC between 18-20 needs 4 years to be arbitration eligible. 21 year olds needs 3 years. 22-23 year olds needs 2 years. 24 and older needs 1. McDonagh and Hagelin are arb eligible this summer. Mac was 21 in 2010. Hagelin was 23 in 2011. The CBA uses September 15 to determine the players age. Stepan signed at 20 in 2010. He needs another season for 4. DZ needed 4. He signed the 2 year bridge contract. DZ will be arb eligible in 2014.

Ah that explains it mcd was 20 when he signed but turned 21 before sept 15th. Thanks for clarifying the rule

If Miller impresses Boyle can be traded to create a bit more cap space if needed. Although I like Boyle's intangibles he is no way not expendable. Send him to MTL to be with his biffer Prust.

saving 500K from Rupp to Powe is great for next yr. Every little bit counts. Also alot of teams may just carry 1 spare which is why Bickel actually makes some sense if he doesnt completely suck which I have doubts about:laugh:
 
can someone clarify how it works with one way deals in the minors?

So Haley has a one yr 600K I believe next yr. Can the rangers put that in the minors and not get hit on the cap?

Someone said its 900K so they are good but I have 375K in my mind.
