i think their one miss was not letting us see Bill and Ellie interact. They still could’ve shown more of Bill and Franks story (if that was what they were wanting to do) while creating a different story that allowed Ellie and Joel to reach them. So many of these episodes seemed to have taken directly from the game and created an episode around it. Are there different directors for each episode?
Yeah that's what I've liked to see, Joel and Ellie's interactions with Bill. Looks like there's been a few different directors with some of them having writing credit as well. I wouldn't be surprised it was Druckman's choice to change episode 3.

They're mostly staying on point with it which is great. I've seen side by sides of the game and the show where the dialog is word for word and the scenes are almost identical which is really cool.

I’m a huge Seinfeld fan and I’m giving Curb Your Enthusiasm a shot for the first time. The first few episodes seem very slow. Does the show pick up or get better as time goes?

Yes. it's great. We debate the two shows in my family. My kids feel Curb translates better to the younger generation but they will all admit that George may be the single funniest character in any half hour scripted sitcom. He's certainly on the shortlist. Once Larry gets rolling it's wonderful. Curb always has a few slow episodes or moments since it's more loosely run than Seinfeld but it's best moments are fantastic. I'm just not sure if it ever quite wants to be my latex salesman. Nor am I sure if there will ever be the summer of Larry. Then again, Larry respects Wood, which at this point in the season makes him a very small minority on that issue.

I’m going to trust you on this one and keep plugging away. I think I’m on episode 5 and so far I could go either way. I’ve recently done the same thing with Sunny but I’ve been told that show takes off in season 2 as well. George is a treasure… I’ve never thought about it but he definitely is up there on the list. Who else do you and your family have in the top 5?

I would think Michael Scott and Ron Swanson would be in my top 10.

I'll have to ask my kids. I'm old and have not watched that much in the way of scripted comedy in recent years. My guess is one of their favorites will be Bojack Horseman or someone from that show. I do love Rick and Morty and enjoy Solar Opposites although it's hard to pick out one character. I will add that I've never been a fan of Steve Carrell. His style doesn't appeal to me, but comedy is subjective. My wife watches recent scripted comedy but her shows have tended to be ok but not great in my eyes. Things like Big Bang Theory or Mom but she has also watched Schitts Creek which my mother who is in her 80s also liked so I'm not sure what to think about that.

We agree on Rick and Morty/ Solar Opposites. Hoping the recasting of those shows doesn’t hurt the quality of the upcoming episodes. Big Bang was good for me but no one character would be considered top tier for my liking. Mom, just isn’t for me… I used to like Ana Farris but her in that show I just didn’t get… same with Schitts Creek… tried a few and couldn’t get into it.

If you haven’t watched Parks n Rec, I would highly recommend it. Ron Swanson basically reminds me of what I assume Jim is like in real life . If you need further poking, then just go to YouTube and put in Best of Ron Swanson.

That’s actually very cool! What’re your thoughts on Last of Us so far? I think it’s good, they did a very good job bringing the game to life.

Loving it. Episode 2 was the weakest of the bunch to me. The other 4 have been so good. It actually got me to play the game and I really don’t play single player games. Started playing it before the Wild game and then finished it yesterday.

I really enjoyed it. The premise is weird, the characters are well acted and weird, and I was always interested in the stories mystery.

One of my most anticipated returns for season 2 this year. Ended up loving it after giving it a shot.

Have you seen Tales from the Loop? It reminded me of that vibe a bit. Total mind bender stuff and a wild fun ride. I really enjoyed it and it had me asking how anyone writes this stuff.

Cannot recommended it enough. Incredible show. Equally incredibly satisfying cliffhanger to end the season.
Thanks guys, watched the first 2 episodes last night.

Did not disappoint, it’s so weird lol, I’m hooked. Will at least watch episodes 2 through 5/6 tonight!

After being perpetually on my to do list, I finally watched the first three seasons of Arrested Development over the last month. Now I know the origin of a bunch of gifs.

Also it unearthed a repressed high school memory of having a crush on a girl who I wasn't 100% sure wasn't related to me.

Hulu only had the original three seasons and I hadn't heard great things about the recent-ish revival on Netflix.

The new episodes on Netflix were ok, and they provided some more resolution to the story of the Bluth family than the original series run did, but what you've heard is correct. The Netflix episodes didn't capture quite the same magic as the original.

Another great episode. I don’t know if I enjoyed all the changes that were made as much as I did the game version. Wasn’t really a fan of the ending. Felt a little rushed and underwhelming. I loved how the bedroom scene was basically ripped from the game. I think it’s probably my favorite scene in the game although there’s a few others in contention

Just finished TLoU Part II and holy shit. I know this game got a f*** load of hate. I don’t really know what the reasons are. I think I know a couple of the reasons and it’s classic gamer stuff. When it comes to the story though I really don’t get how there could be all that hate. What an absolutely gut wrenching story. This shit is f***ing sad lol

I love both games. Waiting on the first season to be done to watch the show.

Liked a lot of stuff lately.

Atlanta finale was a nice one. Gonna miss those four, they’re all some of my favorite characters ever.

Really enjoyed both seasons of White Lotus. So glad that Mike White is getting his due after so long.

Severance is great. Ben Stiller is a fantastic director. Great cast, intriguing.

Alice in Borderland - interesting dark premise, very entertaining if a bit absurd.

Curb > Seinfeld all day. But I was never a laugh track, 90s sitcom guy.

Sad but not surprised about the Rick and Morty issues. I don’t think it will be close to the same but you could tell he was unhealthy along a few dimensions every time they showed BTS footage.

Finally watched the Glass Onion / Knives Out movies. Total garbage. Rian Johnson is a hack.

Tar was incredible. Todd Field is in my view one of the best directors this country has ever produced and the guy’s made three films. Sad or badass, I can’t decide.

Banshees of Inisherin was also pretty unforgettable.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare Cutb and Seinfeld. Curb is not restricted in format the way Seinfeld was and Seinfeld is a creature of its time. To me they have some overlap and some differences. I’d say that Curb has an advantage because it focuses solely on Larry. If Seinfeld focused solely on George it might be a different discussion. My kids all prefer Curb and yet each will admit that George Costanza is probably the single funniest character in thr history of television. Jason Alexander was brilliant. Seinfeld’s biggest problem was Seinfeld. He’s not a good actor and as a straight man to Kramer and George he was ok but not great. He had moments but they were just that. Magic Loogie reenactment and latex salesman were his two best moments to me. Of course as moments go it’s hard to top those two for me. Elaine was another straight man added to diversify the cast. I never found her all that funny but at least the writers stumbled upon Puddy because of her. Not that it’s definitive but years later you stil have Seinfeld fans coming up with new show plots and ideas on social media and Reddit. I’m not sure Curb is quite there yet.
