We just finished Slow Horses, and I’m immediately sad that there’s not another season available right now. It’s one of the best shows I’ve seen recently.

For All Mankind is like a guilty soap opera pleasure for me. I enjoy it but I don’t know if I want to go recommending it to everyone; it can get cheesy at times.

The first season is amazing, 2nd season is great, then it starts to stutter a bit but levels out and is enjoyable. Hoping S5 ticks up a bit (they started filming a few months ago).

I’m a few episodes in on @Its Always Sundstrom recommendation. Seemed to start pretty slow but the acting was really good.

It is very well done. I’m rooting for a total thug but he’s the lesser of thr evils. I will still feel cheated at the end when we don’t even get a cameo of Batman.

Been watching movies to break up some long work days in front of the computer:

Saw Trap. Was really fun and worth watching, obviously absurd but the most Hitchcock-like thing I've seen since Parasite. Good for M. Night to get back in the win column. If he could only stay there.

Also if you're into old samurai movies, Sword of Doom f***in rules.

A movie that was not very good was Rosemary's Baby. Talk about dated and silly.

Saw Trap. Was really fun and worth watching, obviously absurd but the most Hitchcock-like thing I've seen since Parasite. Good for M. Night to get back in the win column. If he could only stay there.

Also if you're into old samurai movies, Sword of Doom f***in rules.

A movie that was not very good was Rosemary's Baby. Talk about dated and silly.

Rosemary’s Baby was very good. It’s a creature of its time but that’s what it has to be evaluated against.

Think it aged like milk. Mia Farrow's performance was very good and I'm a huge John Cassavettes fan, but it's pretty rough these days. I see why it resonated, but unlike The Shining, The Exorcist or even The Omen movies, it's just a little too clunky for me. The score, the dialogue, the setups, etc.

Tell me a better movie filmed in that era covering the same subject matter? You are comparing it to movies made much later. Of course they hold up better. You have no obligation to like it and I don’t put it in the same tier as the thr movies you named but that’s not shaming it. It’s like saying Casino isn’t as good as the Godfather movies or Good Fellas.

Edit: my analogy only works on one level. A better analogy would be that Dracula with Lugosi wasn’t as good as the one with Gary Oldman or what I expect from the upcoming Nosferatu. Older movies have technical disadvantages combined with less to draw upon.

I’m an M Night fan but his movies can be pretty hit or miss for me. Liked Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable, Split but didn’t like the Village, Lady in the Water, The Happenining. For me Trap falls into the later, dispite absolutely loving the intial trailer. I feel like they gave away too much of the plot and the major twist. Was hoping for more.

I get what you're saying. I guess I feel that, even accepting for the era, it still feels like it doesn't have many redeeming qualities. I think I would've been just as disappointed in 1968 as now. I don't compare Psycho or Rear Window to LA Confidential, Parasite, etc. but, despite the old school Hollywood aspects, they still have a lot of power years later. Ditto for the original silent Nosferatu.

I also realize now I'm not a huge Polanski fan - Chinatown is another one, that while I think it's a good movie, I don't think it's as good as its reputation.

Yeah, I went in cold, not knowing anything. So I was very charmed by the premise and how it unfolded.

I think it's very cool how we're rooting for him though we catch on to his secret and then the movie flips back to the traditional mode of rooting against him in the final 1/3rd.

Like you, I was not a fan of the exact same M. Night films except for this one.

These days I try not to read about stuff ahead of time and I enjoy things a lot more. After the fact, I've read a lot of people complaining but it didn't bother me that his daughter and her music were central to the film - I thought she was pretty good at both acting and singing honestly.

I think the biggest problem with Rosemary’s Baby is it is over reliant on the implication of the story. For another slightly more update approach watch The Sentinel from 1977. In the era of Rosemary’s Baby they didn’t show anything.
