Ooo yes. Herectic I am excited for.

Gladiator 2 I am terrified about haha cause the first one is one of my favorites. But will definitely see it on the big screen.

It's not amazing by any means but if you want to scratch that gladiator itch those about to die on peacock was actually entertaining. Iwan Rheon was the best part and some of the action scenes even with some shitty cgi were pretty fun.

I'm hoping it gets a season 2 but I'm a sucker for anything with gladiators and I'd absolutely have had season tickets if I lived in that era lol

@Satans Hockey

Bottomline for this particular movie is if you are not going into the theater with an open mind or not expecting an unorthodox musical, then you will hate it.

If you are prepared for it or knew for years that this movie will be this way, or walk into the theater with an open mind then I think you will enjoy it.

I understand both sides. I can see why many people despise it, but I can understand why some really liked it, because I enjoyed it.
I think the Batman fans are probably mad that this isn’t going to connect to anything. The venom for thr movie makes zero sense even if it’s not a great movie. Alien Romulus wasn’t great but because it catered to thr hardcore Alien fanbase it was well received while Prometheus and Covenenat were not.

The most recent trailer for Gladiator 2 makes it seem very dark like even the "hero" isn't much a hero so much as it's a tale of the lesser of evils vs the worse evil and trying to survive the political landscape of the time. Looks better than I expected at this point but nothing will beat the original imo.
It's probably better than the original idea for Gladiator 2 where Maximus gets sent back from the afterlife like 20 years later and Lucius is basically the new Commodus. Oh, and then Maximus ends up showing up in various wars throughout history, Wolverine style.

Plus you can get this...

Seeing Joker 2 for a second time tonight. Will give my thoughts after a rewatch
It's an interesting take on the character and I'm disappointed Phoenix won't get to play a version of the Joker in a Batman universe (stylistically it's too far removed from Pattison's Batman but that could have been cross pollinated if they knew they wanted to overlap them originally). He'd have brought real depth to it with the right script.

The Penguin is really, really good holy shit. I'm so burnt out on comic book crap but this is totally different to me, HBO knows how to do TV. Colin Farrell is great, it's crazy that it's actually him but the actress that plays Sophia steals the show, she's fantastic holy crap.
And thats how I met your Mother

To continue on Joker 2….

The first film had a ton of music, multiple dancing scenes, delusional scenes, and even some singing scenes. The last scene of the first movie was Arthur literally singing “Thats Life”. So I don’t agree with the folks who say the musical scenes do not fit. The themes were there in the first movie and that is why
Arthur singing and dancing in his delusions in the second movie works. And Phoenix “not being a good singer” isn’t an issue. Because it’s ARTHUR FLECK singing. The movie isn’t meant to be a world class musical because then that would miss the entire point. Remember, Arthur was a successful stand up comedian in his delusional thoughts in the first movie. Arthur wanted to be seen in that first movie. He was striving to be seen as a successful clown, dreaming of being on stage as a successful stand up comic, dreaming to be on TV on the Murray show. Him having his delusions in the second movie of singing and dancing and gaining influence with Harley fits perfectly. I feel like the majority of the audience missed all of these connections to the first movie.

After my second viewing, I give it a solid 7.7. I thoroughly enjoyed it and enjoyed the risks they decided to take. I have the first Joker a 9.2 which is a top 5 movie for me.

Yeah, I'm gonna stick with the crowd and say the Joker 2 was very very bad. Execution matters. I understood the intent but it's the sort of idea that works better in animation than live action.

I don't think it's a coincidence that most successful (live action) film musicals all have a pretense for the musical numbers - Chicago, Singin' in the Rain, Moulin Rouge, etc. all have actors / stage people doing the singing within the plot. Wizard of Oz and West Side Story are big exceptions to that, sure.

Bought a PS5 a few months ago but it's been unused. Truly am an adult now, it's pretty sad - between caregiving for parents, marriage, fiancee's pregnancy and work, post-COVID has been sort of relentless with putting out fires. What a very un-fun period of life.

Hang in there. Find some time for yourself. You can't be everything to everyone else. Your priorities have to be (1)marriage (2) work (3) everything else. Once you have a child your marriage and child are tied at 1 and then work is 3 and then everything else.

Thanks - you crossed my mind when I thought of examples of good dads after finding out the news.

I'll be able to manage but it's more the confluence of everything at once. Unfortunately both parents are really in rough shape. Really just down to bad luck in both cases as well, one an accident and the other latent terminal illness. That plus the pregnancy has been rough on my fiancee with a lot of nausea and dizziness. I've been a lucky guy for a very long time so some mean reversion was due. I'm sure better times will return.

Joker 2 is basically historic, had an 81% drop in its second weekend, beating a record that the 2009 Friday the 13th movie held.

This is such a colossal failure it's crazy. Paul Blart 2 and Cocaine Bear have made more money in the theater than it. The word of mouth is so bad people aren't even curious to go check it out to hate watch, it's just fascinating.

So my two viewings contributed to 50% of the box office sales?

I may be seeing it again for a third time this week with a friend.

Penguin episode 4, incredible

What a f***ing show. My goodness
It was a bit over the top in Arkham for my taste but as a firm fan of the Lighthouse I can see why you enjoyed it. It did a great job with the backstory and brought us back to where we needed to be. I'm curious where they go from here. I think my biggest criticism of the whole universe is I expect something a bit more from the Penguin than just a clever thug but maybe I'm asking too much.
