This article is based on nothing.

Yeah, i'm not buying that either. What does CBS sports even know about hockey? I can't find anywhere where Derek Van Diest has stated this either. They're not going to sit McDavid if he's ready to go when we're in a playoff race.

I think honestly if he had to he could be playing by the first week of January, but they'll give him an extra 10-14 days of healing time, so mid-January is when I expect him back.

Honestly I'd be fine with this. This team isn't making the playoffs, so they should forget about that.

4 pts out = not making playoffs? Our dmen are coming back.. and soon McDavid. Even if we don't make it atleast we get to watch him play. Forget about playing McD man you gotta be joking :help::help:

If the Oilers can make it to the All-star break with their heads still above water, then things could get extremely interesting with the return of McDavid.

McDavid has been out with a broken collarbone since Nov. 3 when he slammed into the end boards along with two Philadelphia Flyers defenceman.

Despite reports of McDavid’s recovery being ahead of schedule, it’s unlikely the Oilers will rush their franchise player back before the All-star break during the last week of January.

Doesn't sound like he's positive but here is the quote

Thank you.

CBS sports? Who do we rely on next? ESPN?

ESPN ain't all that bad as a web site. LeBrun and Burnside are decent commentators who know their stuff. They update stats and scores much more quickly than TSN or Sportsnet.

ESPN is a major step up from CBS sports...especially when it comes to hockey.

What I want to know is how in the hell can it take until FEBRUARY to come back from a broken collar bone? Isn't that like...literally at least 4 weeks longer than its supposed to take to heal?

It doesn't make sense to me.
I had pretty much the same injury at 18 and I didnt have the rehab, diet, resources or commitment Conner has.

I was playing sports again in 8 weeks.

Every scenario is unique but if Conner is skating, stick handling and shooting for at least 2 weeks now there is no way he does that for another 6 weeks. Doesnt make sense.

I agree, these athletes have the best of the best when it comes to rehab, as well Connor is still young and bodies and bones tend to heal quicker.

The only reason I could see him coming back in February would be cause we don't have any games the last week of January. Personally I think he will be back for the HNIC game against Calgary on the 16th, that brings him to 10 weeks post surgery.

That makes more sense to me and its not because I have tickets for that game. :D

The only reason we're close is because the Pacific is garbage.

Rushing McDavid back won't change anything.

Define 'rushing'.

If the bone is healed then its healed. This situation really is that simple.

Yah, I'd like to know what people mean when they say that, too. Is this a fine piece of silver, that we need to continue to polish even when it's ready to put back on the shelf?

I hear you...except to say that a better analogy might be a fine piece of fragile china. :D

I think some may be just hyper cautious simply because of who the player is.

As I said before if McDavid is already shooting and stick handling.. that shows that he has close to full mobility. That doesnt happen unless the bone (and surrounding tissue) can take the stress. Its been 7 weeks at this point...I would suggest that the worst case scenario is that the bone is very close to 100% already.
.

I honestly cant see Connor skating and shooting for another 6 weeks...there is no point in doing that. The bone wont be any more healed than it would be after 8 weeks.

Once its healed its healed. Its then all about strength and mobility which has been a part of Connors routine for a few weeks now,

Whether or not the Oilers have a shot at the playoffs is because the Pacific division is garbage or not, doesn't change the fact that they do in fact have a shot at the playoffs.

So to say with no uncertainty that they wont make the playoffs is a bit defeatist isn't it?

At this point he's already past the point it should be considered rushing back- it's 8 weeks tomorrow. If the bone's healed, it's healed. Sitting him out longer than needed actually hurts his development. Young players need to play. 2 extra weeks isn't going to super heal the bone, that's not how it works.

I would argue that the addition of McDavid as soon as he is healthy could easily impact our playoff chances because of the garbage that is our division. He could be the 1 ppg that pushes us over the edge.
