What are thoughts on Moreno playing in the majors this year? He sure looks good at AAA. I think he had 3 hits tonight?
The question I think we should be asking is, should Moreno join the team in Toronto tomorrow afternoon?

Pros: Immediately improved offence, Moreno at C, Kirk at DH, only one of Tapia/Zimmer in the lineup, Heineman/Collins sent down and no longer taking up a bench spot. Moreno gets major league experience before we have to make a decision on Kirk/Jansen

Cons: They want to develop his defence more before he hits the majors. A tough decision or two when Jansen comes back.

I think this is the type of move you make after getting shutout twice in a hitter friendly park because you're in a buzzsaw of a division where every win counts.

Personal arguments and disputes from prior threads are not to be brought forward into subsequent ones, as has been the rule on HF since... pretty much forever. It's not now nor has it ever been some grand conspiracy against any particular user. As someone who's been around here and a moderator on here for a very long time, trust me: No one user is that important anywhere except maybe in their own head. The mods have better things to do than follow someone around and harass them. Like maybe put out the fires so frequently started by such people.

If think they wait another week so they can potentially delay his service time and get the extra year of control.

Some more info on that:

How service time manipulation works

Traditionally, a player needs to be in the majors for 172 of the 186 or so days in a given season to be credited with a full year of service time. Players need six years of service time to become a free agent and three years of service time to be eligible for arbitration, with a percentage of players between two and three years — known as Super Twos — also eligible.

By keeping a prospect in the minors long enough that he can’t be in the majors for more than 171 days, teams effectively give themselves a seventh season of control over that player. The most notable example came in 2015, when the Chicago Cubs held third baseman Kris Bryant in the minors long enough for him to earn only 171 days. Bryant won National League Rookie of the Year that season and NL Most Valuable Player the next as the Cubs ended a 108-year World Series drought. Bryant eventually filed a grievance against Chicago, but an arbitrator sided with the Cubs, determining the team’s actions were permissible under the CBA.

At the cost of a few games without Rutschman in 2022 — a season in which Baltimore isn’t expected to contend — the Orioles could increase the chances they’ll have him under contract in 2028, when a 30-year-old Rutschman might be one of the top catchers, if not players, in the sport.

One of the bigger “wins” for players in the negotiations was the implementation of countermeasures against teams manipulating service time of top prospects. For years, it was common knowledge that teams would delay the promotion of a star player on the cusp of the major leagues till after a few weeks had passed, citing the need for additional “development”. What teams were actually doing was ensuring the player would not accrue a full year’s worth of service time in their first season, thus gaining their team an extra year of control before they were eligible for free agency. This was long a thorn in the side of the players union and now there is set to be at least some level of incentives for teams to promote their younger stars by Opening Day.

For one, the top two finishers in Rookie of the Year voting in each league are automatically awarded a full year of service, regardless of how much they actually accrued that year. Secondly, teams that promote top prospects to their Opening Day rosters will be awarded draft pick compensation should that player finish in the top 3 of Rookie of the Year Voting and/or Top 5 in Cy Young/MVP Voting. The details on the exact compensation are not yet released but there will be at least some draft pick incentives to encourage teams to put forth their true best team on Opening Day.

The anti-clutchness is really frustrating lately. How do you get 0 runs from a bases loaded none out situation? Come on.

Well having arguably your most aggressive hitter next to Chapman batting second instead of a guy who wins MVP 99 out of 100 times last season certainly doesn't help.

I like Bo, i really do. But having him in the 2 hole when he's swinging at anything remotely in the same area code is so stupid. At that point he should be your cleanup hitter.

Tapia in again, kill me

At least Joe Panik had WS winner/All-Star/Gold Glove in his past so you could see the logic where a manager might buy into his pedigree and 'clutch' and veteran leadership.

Tapia is just a pure replacement level player.
