Ugh I don’t get the thought process at all.
Possibly our worst hitter in the 5 spot. Resting our 2 best defenders on the same day?

There's some crazy stuff in that lineup (mostly Tapia at 5) but Espinal and Zimmer probably isn't that much of a downgrade defensively from Chapman and Springer.

Espinal is great but Chapman is one of the best defenders at any position in baseball.
Espinal was one of the best defenders last season at 3B. Chapman is the best, but Espinal is one of the most capable replacements in the league and we likely won't miss a beat.

Springer though isn't even really a good defender. He won't hurt you out there and he's probably slightly above average, but you can probably make an argument that Zimmer is a better defender in CF.

Now if it was Biggio/Tapia playing in those spots......

montoyo at it again, no time to experiment or whatever this is. try this crap vs teams like the orioles etc. not vs a team we are likely going to competing with all year for a playoff spot. le sigh.

We really have the worst manager in MLB don't we........

That's not even nitpicking. That's genuinely shocking.

When we were leading 6-1 and lost 12-6 those exact thoughts ran through my head. Some people think baseball managers have very little influence on the outcome of a ball game, I'm not one of those people.

I don't think any manager could get away with this many bizarre lineup decisions and get away with it unless your Kevin Cash. There has to be something else going on behind the scene. Didn't someone post something last year that the analytics team was apart of the lineup decisions? I thought I heard that somewhere but I can't recall the specifics.

Mother Nature saving Montoyo from himself. Both stopping Tapia from hitting 5th, giving Chapman and Springer off days without missing a game, and getting 1 days closer to Teo and Jansen's return without playing a game without them but also hopefully not having us use Stripling this weekend because all the other guys got pushed back 1 start anyway

What really gets me is that you just know Zimmer wouldn't have gotten a single PA this series if not for Teoscar getting hurt.

You have a power hitting lefty project from the AL Central and you're up against a righty in Yankee stadium and he's still prioritizing Tapia as the true 4OF

Just to double down on the frustration, Tapia didn't run out a ground ball last game despite having no skill except speed....... And Montoyo rewarded that with batting fifth.

Montoyo seems like a players' coach - but WOW is he completely and entirely inept. I won't be happy with his tenure until he's fired personally - as awful as that is to say.

Montoyo does some silly things but I’m not sure I’ve seen him do something as stupid as bat Tapia 5th. Absolutely moronic.

Nearly as many shutouts as last year only 2 series into the season feels bad right now. And another game where basically Vladdy won the game by himself.
