Just my dad and I, I'm in my 20's and he's in his 50's.

I'm gonna be in town for 3 nights, I live in the DC area

He's a big history buff, also likes science, sports, concerts, bars, even the touristy stuff

I just like keepin the old man happy ;)

Just throwing this out there, my band has a gig on the 17th at a place called Rumba Cafe (which DSL referenced above). I could probably get you and your pops in for free of you're interested!

I don't like pimping my band out on here, but figured this is appropriate. The music scene here is outstanding, and we're a sort of classic rock n roll trio with some energy. We're twenty-something's as well, and I'm sure your dad would be into it :)

Cheers!

(By the way, the lot of you are invited as well ;))

If your dad is into history, be sure to take him to the Statehouse, he'll really enjoy it!

If you're at the statehouse during breakfast or lunch time, make sure to eat at Milo's Cafe in the basement. It's cafeteria food, but very good. I make a point of stopping there whenever I'm in Columbus in the daytime.

It is about an hour away, but he may like the National Museum of the USAF at WPAFB.

3rd nomination (since you're around for 3 days). One of the country's best museums. When you arrive, go directly to sign up for President's hanger tour. It's free too, but they really limit tickets on the shuttle and it "sells out". I think the desk to get tickets is in Hanger 2, but you can ask any of the volunteer staff where to get tickets.

USAF sounds great, thanks for the responses guys

Let me know if you decide to go. It's by me, so I can give you some other ideas around here if you need something to do before or after (especially if you need to get something to eat).

Visiting Team Hotels

I'm sure this question has been asked before but when teams visit Columbus, what hotel(s) do they usually stay in? I'm heading out to Columbus on Saturday from NY for the Isles game and already have my hotel booked, but was curious if I might have a shot of seeing the team while I'm out there..

Not sure if it's still the case but I think teams used to stay at the Crown Plaza just down the street from the arena. With the new Hilton downtown it might be different. I've also heard of teams staying at the Easton Hilton in the past which is not close to the arena.

I believe the Blackhawks still stay there because they were at Smith and Wolensky last time at Easton. I know Detroit and Phoenix have stayed there in the past as well.

Maybe I could throw it back at ya, do you know where the Jackets stay when they are in NYC or NJ? I'm going to be taking in both of those road games and would like to stay at the same hotel.

Well I'm staying at the Crowne Plaza so hopefully you guys are right!

I can't say for sure about NYC when they play the Rangers (and Devils for that matter as nobody stays in Newark...), but against the Islanders I'd be willing to bet they'll be staying at the Uniondale Marriott which is literally across the concourse from Nassau Coliseum. A lot of times I've tailgated at Isles games and when I'd walk into the hotel to use the bathroom I would see some visiting players hanging in the lobby.

Hey Blue Jackets fans!

Going to be in town a few weeks from now for the Ranger Blue Jacket game and was wondering if anyone could possibly provide me with some great to do stuff for both daytime and night time activities in Columbus!

We're all hockey fans so hopefully we have similar likes and dislikes :D

Thanks in advance!

R Bar is the hockey bar, right outside the arena, all hockey all the time, great place to pre and post game and even go on off nights. Anywhere right there on Park Street will be fun for a 20's something. If your dad likes live music of the classic variety, Woodlands Bar in Grandview and Park Street Tavern on Park St. Historical Society for a day thing, never been to the Air Museum in Dayton but that seems like a long drive when there is plenty to do here. At least an hour both ways and you don't know your way around...If you like nice steakhouses, Hyde Park on High Street. Gordon Biersch next to the arena has good food and beers also. I personally would skip the Statehouse, not much to see on the inside really. Wouldn't mean much to you unless you are from Ohio.

Enjoy our city! I'll be going to New York for the Feb 22 game, any idea where the Jackets or opposing teams usually stay in New York?

What's the name of your band?
