I was at last night's game. I have a few thoughts:
First, on security:
The problem with the security lines to me seems top be the mix of manual wanding and having to put down your metallic belongings (i.e. binoculars, cameras, and such. The Browns have manual wanding but let you hold such belongings in your hand and ignore a beep coming clearly from the binoculars, camera, etc. The Cavaliers make you put down such belongings, but you walk through a walk-through metal etector and if it doesn't beep, the security guard hands you back your binoculars, camera, etc. At NWA, you have to put down your belongings, get manually wanded, go back, and pick them up.
The response pete goegan received seems to indicate that the NHL requires manual wanding (no walk-through metal detectors), but would they allow fans to hold metallic items in their hands a la the NFL?
I have some ideas re: staggered gate openings (PSL Holders, standard STHs. single-game ticket buyers).
A STH-only or PSL Holder-only line might work, but would need to be markedly separate from the regular lines rather than a separate line at the same entrance, as the latter is too hard to keep separate. (I have seen the Lake Erie Monsters struggle with this issue with much smaller crowds. They ultimately decided to make all lines through the garage walkway - which they use for STH early entry - open to all fans once the STH early entry period ends. Yes, I know they;re minor league, but the have the operational/game-night infrastructure of an NBA team.)
Finally. on the programs:
Why did they have to take up all the programs and destroy them over a wrong roster? Couldn't they have left the programs out with the corrected roster sheets next to them? It would really stink to come to the only game you will see all season and miss out on getting to read the full-color portions of the program because of a typo in the game night section in the middle of the program. (Note: I am not referring to myself here. This was my 2nd of what will likely be 5-6 games this year and I got in early enough to get a program. This is just a hypothetical instance arguing in favor of still distributing the erroneous programs).
I have been to two other (unexpectedly) program-less games. The Browns had an error (Can't be sure what it was, I'm thinking broken links from the qr codes as I couldn't find any actual typos.) in the first preseason game program last year. They refused to sell them at the game, but were giving them away afterwards at the ticket office and the second preseason game. The Indians once had an entire series' worth of program destroyed under orders from the Commissioner's Office because they had the coming season's schedule on the back page (a common occurrence in late season Indians programs) and MLB had been forced to scuttle what they thought was the final schedule for reasons never fully explained. In the first case, they were eventually made available and in the second case they were destroyed there was top secret info that MLB wanted destroyed. So, I don't know why they couldn't have distributed both the program and corrected rosters last night.
Sorry for the rambling post. Hope it makes some sense. I'm still half-dead from the drive back to Cleveland last night (some really horrible weather around Mansfield).
