Thinking about a trip to columbus to catch some games. Looking for info on where to stay, would prefer to be within walking distance to the arena or at lest easy transit. We will be renting a vehicle but I'd rather not drive to the game. :)

Places to stay within walking distance of the arena are limited... you can do a Google search for "columbus ohio hotels nationwide blvd" and you'll get the options.

From the top of my head there is the Hilton, Crowne Plaza, Hyatt Regency, Drury Inn, and Red Roof Inn.

All the rooms in the arena district appear to be booked. What is parking like near the arena or are there shuttles available to the game? Also what are some "must see" places in Columbus and area, we will be there for five nights and hope to catch three games.

Alright, who else is getting tired of waiting 20 minutes outside in the rain and 30 degree temperatures to get in the door to watch a hockey game. I understand the NHL wants its fans to have a safe time coming out to games and has implemented the proper security procedures, but the way the folks at Nationwide handle it is an absolute joke. One line per set of double doors, every single person has to be wanded...come on! Not until 6:55 did they start wanding only every 4th person. We got in line at 6:35. Absolute insanity to make the people who are paying big money to see your team wait in the cold and rain.

I propose that even if STH's still have to be wanded, there needs to be a line exclusively for them outside the arena and an employee that checks STH cards and only lets those with them into the line. We pay thousands of dollars to watch the team and we get treated like we're going to bomb the place. If I was going to cause mass havoc, I certainly wouldn't pay thousands of dollars to do it. Treat your fans right...please? It's getting old.

I'd encourage you to communicate this to your rep. I very much agree that STH should not be subjected to this. We have the cards, and this is a perfect way to use them since they separate us clearly from joe schmo who buys tickets on stubhub or a scalper. I'd even agree to a background check if it meant I didn't have to stand in the cold and rain waiting for the slowness. If TSA can do it, so can CBJ/NWA/NHL.

I'm ok with the security and I realize it's the NHL's mandate, but the execution is so poor. Tonight I watched a kid in shorts get his bare legs wanded an extra two passes for some reason...unless the kid is a T-1000, I think we're ok with one pass...

Oh I will definitely getting in touch with my rep on this one. Whether anything is done or not is out of my control, but I will at least let my voice be heard. I wouldn't care if they take away Free food night, holiday skates, zoo party, etc etc if they fixed this one issue, which should be very simple to fix, at least in theory. Like I said, if the NHL still requires the checkpoint even for STH's fine, but I'm done with having to get to the arena at 6:25 just to get to my seat in time for puck drop, and I'll let them know about it.

It's gotten to the point where weekend games seem to be too much of a hassle. If the team keeps winning and the bandwagon starts gaining members like it did last year, people could have to wait between 45-60 minutes to get in the gate. Just because there's usually only 10,000 people at the games doesn't mean they shouldn't plan for 18,000. Their number one priority should be to treat the people who are paying to come to the arena in a way that will make them want to return, regardless of STH or general public. You'd think they'd want to get people in ASAP so they can stard spending money...apparently not though.

It's a total joke and I agree that STH should have their own entrance or a pass to get through the security line. Tonight I stood out in the rain with my 3 year old for all most 20 minutes. When I was wanded tonight it went off twice. First time was my belt buckle and the guy did not even check to see if I was wearing a belt he just asked if I was and then moved on to my back. Second time it went off at the small of my back. Guy asked it I had anything else in my pockets and I told him no it's just the fight strap on my jersey and again he just let it go. Also they never check what's in your hands. There are many guns and knifes that can fit in you hand and not draw attention. I'm all for security, but not this useless show. They need to have walk thru detectors and buckets for your items the get check by hand. It would go much faster and would be more then just a show.

Completely agree that its a complete joke. Do not agree that the walk thru detectors would be any quicker. Not sure if you've been to a place other than an airport that has a mass of people trying to get through detectors, but they are painfully slow. Now I'm sure the experience I have with them is due to complete incompetence by the people running the show but I couldn't believe how slow it was the first time I experienced it.

On the other hand, the wanding folks at the Verizon Center in DC for a Cap vs. Jackets game I went to did great. Line moved quickly, no one was stuck outside. If an arguably less safe area can do this more efficiently than a safe "cow town" something is wrong.

E-mailed my rep, hopefully he at least shares the feedback and the people who control these aspects of game nights can make some sort of effort towards improving the experience. At any rate, hope to hear back from him soon.

I've been to two NHL arenas with walk thru detectors and the line went very fast. But really nothing is going to speed it up. Nationwide just does not have enought entrances. Nationwide is a great arena but it's two main problems are lack of entrances and the concourses are too small.

Welcome to the police state where no indignity or inconvenience can't be justified for "safety" reasons. Them terists are everywhere:laugh:

Imagine what a clusterblank it would be if the Jackets drew capacity crowds.
