This seems like a really good get for DNVR

Wow. It's a much bigger name than I expected.

DP: Corey Masisak✅

DNVR Broncos: Surtain✅

DNVR Avs: One of the most disliked “execs” in recent memory, who played a role in chasing away a great player❌

2 out of 3 ain’t bad.
Let's just say that's it's a..hmm...strange comment.

Weird he didn't stay with Altitude. Thought that was the plan. They alluded all year to McNab being a mentor for guys like him and Rycroft before he passed.

Kind of a bummer that they've lost that family feel from the start of last year with Footer and now EL.

Mitchell and JML are good too, but Footer and Eric being PL's son brought a respect factor and a wealth of experience that only someone like McNab could match.

It is a huge get... say what you will about his tenure in the Avs' FO, dude knows hockey. His analysis on Altitude and with Vegas was always great. Huge step up for them.
True.

Also true...I felt like I needed to take a shower after realizing I liked him in the studio.

I get it from DNVR's point of view, it's EL's that makes me wonder..

Do people really like EL? Other than being Pierre’s kid Ive never understood what he’s got going for him

I didn't have a strong opinion one way or another but I was pleasantly surprised with him on Altitude last year.

Seemed humble but also provided some good experienced based analysis that was lacking IMO.

Very much like McNab he grew up around the game with his dad a GM and agent before that, had his own playing career, then spent time in multiple front offices in the NHL. Most NHL players don't even have the kind of experience around the game EL has.

There were rumors he caused issues in the locker room as a player. Have no idea if it is true or not but supposedly there were some that felt he gave PL an unfair ear inside of the locker-room that should remain players only.

I believe he was also the mastermind behind the Duchene Cap. Even if that wasn't his, he was the idiot who so offended ROR that the situation quickly became irreparable.

I freaking hated the guy.

Then he got on Altitutde and I started to listen to him. He might not among the best nationwide, but he was a lot better than we had been getting on Altitude. He added missing nuance to analysis and while he has a wry sense of humor it was a refreshingly far cry from the frat house party humor of Ryker and Keefer. As much as I didn't want to, I found myself grudgingly approving of and then actually becoming a fan of his role. I can't f***ing believe I'm going to say this, but Altitude once again, making the wrong cuts and/or allowing the wrong people to walk. Eric should have become their #1 hockey guy. JML could have the job but he doesn't want it, he wants to call in occasionally and I've got no beef with that. But they need someone serious who knows hockey to kind of lead them. Probably won't matter in a year or so though so why try, eh?

I had initially thought he was a big part of why things went south in negotiations with ROR, but after watching him last year, I have a hard time reconciling the image portrayed of him in the past, with the soft spoken humble guy on the broadcast.

Now after watching ROR for years, even though I'd still take him back on the Avs, he's a bit of an odd duck, and he thinks very highly of himself. There were lots of rumors about his desire to be captain in the NHL for multiple teams.

I wonder if EL or someone else brought up Duchene's salary, and his better offensive numbers at the time, and ROR took that as some sort of big insult, and then characterized negotiations with anyone he talked to as them mistreating him.

After seeing how EL carries himself and speaks to others, very often deferring to other's opinions and not arguing with them, I just have a hard time believing he went in and insulted ROR just to get him to take a cheaper deal.

I generally liked EL on Altitude but he was verbally awkward and definitely still looking for his “style.” His takes made a lot of sense a lot of the time and I think he’s the kind of guy who in 5 years would be pretty great. I’m sure this was probably about money. If we see some new faces on Altitude then it probably wasn’t, and is confusing to me.

interesting - that’s how I felt about the guy but I don’t have altitude so never saw him on there. That was a really good summary of him though that you wrote out. Sounds like I need to give him a chance but when he was in the NHL I didn’t have a lot of respect for the guy at all.

Agree with you on the casual commentator stuff too - this market desperately needs someone who wants to stay and is decent. Just feels like we are a continuous launching pad for bigger markets.

Don't know much about EL but maybe it'll push DNVR to have more serious podcasts!

I've kinda warmed up to the DNVR Avalanche crew. They're fans but they know their stuff - most of the time. And they're not afraid to criticize players and the front office when required.

On the flip size, the DNVR guys who cover the CU Buffs are a complete embarrassment. There's no analysis, no objective viewpoints - just Prime Time cheerleading and fanboi tongue baths 5 times a week.
