Both coaches played KFC in the late part of tight games.

Perfetti is hardly the first 19/20 year old to miss a few shifts late in a tight game. Coaches rarely trust rookies. KFC and Scheif didn't play in those situations at the same age, the same as many players through out the league.

I believe that Perfetti with his off the charts IQ and defensive awareness will earn more and more trust over the coming year.

Agreed. Most coaches aren't quick to trust rookies late in games. Cole was starting to earn it though right before he got injured.

Now, if only Bowness would figure out how to keep Ehlers in tight games... :sarcasm:

You obviously missed the conversation where Lee Stempiak's three extra goals would have resulted in a long-term Jets dynasty.

I think he is but he'll have to prove it this year. He's coming into camp with the goal of winning it.

When was the last time he played center? He was a great 2nd line winger last year, so if he has experience at C there's no reason he can't do it in the NHL

The year before last in the AHL he split time between center and winger. The year prior he played the entire year at center for the Moose.

He was drafted 10AO as a center and we need to develop one in house. I say the kid is up to the task.

Interesting quote from the Athletic:

Scheifele was more than happy to talk about Cole Perfetti.

“He changed trainers, worked with Matty Nichol and looks amazing on the ice,” Scheifele said. “(He) put on a lot of muscle, put in a lot of work this summer. I gained a lot of respect for the kid for doing that, making some changes and learning and trying to grow.”

Nice to hear Perfetti has added the muscle one would hope young driven guys do in the summer (not named Laine).

The only reason he might not play centre is his size and strengh. Development wise I think he's already there.

According to Scheifele Perfetti came to camp jacked. Honestly his compete in front of the net and in board battles has never left me with the impression that he lacks strength. He has a low center of gravity and knows how to use it to his advantage.

According to Wiebe he's also faster and was moving around the ice really well.

I'm really excited for him. He occasionally took over games and looked like a star last year, I feel like he'll only continue to do that more often.

I feel he also controls more of the game at center as well. Once he adjusts I'm confident he'll really blossom. I also think it fits his skill set better, coming in as the trailer and exploiting space.

Cole is one of the most talented prospects the Jets have ever drafted. He had outstanding D-1 and D seasons and the only thing holding him back a bit was his size-skating combination. He was just tall enough (5’11”) but was physically very immature. He also was an average skater. Schiefele was taller but had similar challenges before he was 20 (Bambi).

The other parts of Cole’s game, skill, vision, IQ were off the charts he was only held back in the draft by things that hard work and dedication could fix.

I look forward to seeing what he plays like now that he has added man strength/muscle and has gained a step quickness wise.

Hats off to the hard work.

Yeah, I agree with this assessment and very encouraged by his offseason work -
I'm in the camp that feels hockey players need to be physically mature to play this game - and I don't care how talented they are, they need to be durable (to an extent). Looks like Cole is self aware and is doing what he needs to do to be all that he can be.

Looking forward to see him in the top 6 center role - and I'm much more excited about this chances now that he's shoring up the one area that I think could have held him back.

Laine is working with a very prestigious Finnish trainer who knows exactly what he's doing. He's got him set to peak around age 35 when he will finally start putting up 60 goals a season.
