This kid already thinks the game at NHL speed. I was convinced he should start in the AHL before the season started. I am less convinced the more I watch him. He is already extremely good at puck security.

Really don’t see Maurice using Perfetti in any offensively efficient way so it probably is best that he’s demoted to the Moose after this road trip.

As an unnamed fan was saying in the roster thread about Heinola just trade the guy already if Mo is just going to tank his value by playing him so poorly. Perfetti has been one of our best players and should be in our top 6 yet Mo insists on not playing him with talent.

Perfetti looked quite slow, small and tentative as the game wore on today. Not sure if it’s the NHL players catching onto his tendencies or what, but the AHL seems like the right place for him to be right now (which is unfortunate given that we basically have a spot open on our second line being held hostage by Copp). Still have high hopes for this kid, his hockey IQ is through the roof but he’s gotta work on his explosiveness/strength if he wants to be an impact player at the NHL level.

Slow and tentative?
This kids a quick study. Only two games in and he’s already learned Maurice’s preferred style.

While Perfetti didn’t look bad at all(far from the worse), a top 10 pick is one you have hopes of complete dominance in a game. He will get there 100%, but agreed with above.. if he’s going to be jerked around and the scape goat for a snake oil salesman that is out of ideas to swindle people, keep him in the AHL playing 23 mins a night.

Well Perfetti was replaced by Ves on the 3rd line and that line then scored.
That’s all the proof Maurice needs to end Perfetti’s NHL season now.

I do think that line was much better with Ves on it; he has been quietly solid and should stick there, and Harkins has been good also.

Perfetti just doesn’t seem to fit there at the moment, but I agree that’s more a question of deployment and usage than Perfetti’s deficiencies. He can and should go down and play top end minutes and special teams with the Moose.

I think it's time to reconsider/reject that simple premise that some posters are buying into recently - that being, that a line C by Lowry , fully dedicated to a certain defensive style of hockey, can become more balanced by adding a player like Perfetti on the RW? This simply doesn't recognize that the play style of this 3rd line is so dramatically different and demands a player who is complementary to such playstyle. The 3rd line will forgo possession relatively easily and seek to create turnovers by hard forecheck with lots of board work. Positioning is designed to reduce time and space and otherwise pressure the puck carrier. When turnovers are created, there usually is a quick dump to the netfront- nothing creative. This is not the type of game where Perfetti can make a significant contribution. In many respects, he has been put into a position where he has to play to his weakness's ,not his strenfths.

There is almost certainly another player (Ves) much more suited to complement the playstyle AND add a modicum of increased scoring so as to somewhat rebalance the 3rd line. What is Moe thinking about with some of these decisions?

Well said. It can also be extended to stastny as well as he also has looked out of place in said role.

Simply put as you stated Lowry is looking to make vastly different reads then Cole is so naturally they aren't on the same page. It wasn't just Cole coming off that line last night that lead to Lowry looking better it was also Paul coming off it.

People commenting on Perfetti's play on that line are also forgetting his play on other lines the few times there have been a shift overlap between him and a top 6 line. In those instances his vision/poise and looking for the trailer has lead him to create two grade A scoring chances by finding players who are making offensive reads in Conner and Dubois.

If our coach insists on Copp in that role then the best place for Cole atm is the Moose. I think he's clearly capable of adding something to our second line right now but Moe seems to want to integrate him like the Rangers integrated Lafreniere last season. It's no surprise that now that Alex is playing in the top 6 and playing on the pp quite regularly that he looks significantly better.

This whole notion of toiling down in the lineup to earn your keep is antiquated. Put players in a spot to succeed when they are ready for those roles.

I think he’s looked very promising

strong play is telling with defeats, more so than if we were winning, so that’s been reassuring

he does need a year on the farm imo, a bit more of that development and he will be prime for a spot next year

Who’s coming up to replace him ? Gus ? Or does Mo intend on playing 11 forwards and 7 defence for a while ?

Would've made more sense to send him down if we still had Wheeler. Now we need a fill in in the top 6 and we send down our only guy capable of playing there and providing some actual offense...

DomTon, would be my guess. He's got the size, motor, experience and grit to succeed where callow youth Gus must surely fail.

Woeful PK? Try grit!

Poor 5v5 scoring? Grit, baby!

Giving up a ton of high-danger chances while managing hardly any? Stir in a little grit!

Coasting forwards? Sloppy clearing attempts? Tighten things up with pure grit!

Not "moving our feet, playing the right way, or adopting a shooter's mentality?" Nothing works like grit!

You'll like a whole lot more chunks of a game than you don't like [sic], when you wash it down with a nice mug o grit!

Maybe Gus. But not likely, IMO.

Toninato didn't play for the Moose tonight so Almost assured he's the one called up tomorrow. Moe will be wanting his good vet.

Going down to the Moose would be good for his offensive-minded confidence, but only if he hits the weight room to be a bit readier for the “Maurice Challenge”.
Languishing on rare bottom appearances all season might be soul-crushing..And we know that if PoMo has a secret demonic possession by an animal familiar, it would be the Galapagos tortoise.
