Good thing that Caufield has nothing to do with that.
Pure envy
You mean Caufield and Suzuki aren't going to score 70+ goals each? Unbelievable.
Stats..................GP G A P +/-

N. Suzuki...........15 10 9 19 +6

C. Caufield........15 9 7 16 +3

Matthews..........16 7 8 15 -2

Going toe to toe in the first month with last years league MVP .......... shuts up the critics pretty fast.

If Montreal can fix their special teams and the PP to translate for Caufield, then his stats are going to balloon. I think they need some defense PP specialist before that happens, though.
Its coming. Early rebuild mode here.

As a fellow manlet, I love seeing what Caufield is doing. Great to see that you can be an elite player without having to be a pituitary freak like some other leagues. That said, I really want to see a midget fight between Caufield and Debrincat the next time the Habs and Sens meet. Not going to happen, but a man can dream.

Cauf's defense is irrelevant if he always has the puck. For those that don't consider him a superstar yet, you will in the next 36 months.
Caufield isn't even bad defensively, he's actually very solid. He backchecks hard and has good stick work, his hockey IQ translates to defensive awareness too.

He always tries to be 1 step ahead of the play, regardless of whether it's in an offensive or defensive situation. Suzuki plays similarly too, that's why they mesh so well. Of course there's shortcomings too like lack of board game in defensive situations.. but you can't have everything. The reason why he's the player he is today is because of those shortcomings and trying to compensate for them elsewhere.

I’m more worried about him getting lined up for big hits and he’s been elusive so far than his scoring ability. If he was a bigger body player he would get a lot more buzz I think

Ignore the stats, which are good. Watching Caufield now, he has that absolute self-confidence in his abilities, and is one of the most exciting players Montreal has seen for a long time, with Kovalev being an oasis in the late-2000s.

When Montreal drafted him, I thought Caufield would be a mere sniper, someone who would finish the plays and that's it. But he's becoming so much more than that. He's very dangerous in the offensive zone, is a much better stickhandler than I expected, and honestly he reminds me of Patrick Kane, without saying he'll be as good. He just has that clutch aura of the guy who will score the big goal and elevate his play in the big moments.

It helps that Nick Suzuki is also blossoming simultaneously as an all-around #1 center.

Overall, I wonder if Caufield isn't about to turn into the best Montreal winger since Guy Lafleur. For now I still prefer peak 2008 Kovalev, but it's close and CC is just getting started. He certainly has that swagger that characterized both Lafleur's and Kovalev's careers in MTL.
Superstar? Sure sure, right there with Crosby, Ovechkin, McDavid and Matthews. Damn, I spilled my beer from laughing so hard.

He's better than Marner ...... already
Hahahahahahaha, sure he is. Hahahahaha.

Caufield, celebrating with teammates.

Interesting to note: His teammates couldn't actually see him down there, but they knew he was close by and did their best to encourage him. One eventually put a 4-step ladder over the boards so he could come off the ice.

He's looking talented and good, but... "superstar"?

At any given time, there are maybe 5-6 superstars in hockey. So, let's not go overboard.

He's been playing like a 1st-line forward for 15 games. Might be a tad early to call him the best Habs' winger since Guy Lafleur. (Are we all forgetting Stephane Richer's multiple 50-goal seasons? Mats Naslund?)

Anyway, I'm glad Habs' fans have some offensive talent to cheer for, finally.
That's an extremely absurd take in today's NHL

Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl
Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar , Mikko rantanen

We're at the low end of your number now and I've gone through two teams. Guess we can't fit Crosby and Ovechkin in anymore. Matthews, pastrnak, Panarin, svechnikov, Kucherov. Nope. And that's just off the top of my head from the east.

This is like a take from the 1960s

Bottom line is that he is definitely on pace for superstar status he just needs to be consistent for a couple years and he's in, imo

It's obviously a matter of how you define "superstar". (I wouldn't consider Panarin, Pastrnak, Svechnikov, Rantanen anywhere near it.) MacKinnon kind of borderline. Yes to Draisaitl, Matthews, McDavid, Makar. Crosby and Ovechkin are legacy superstars, but not by the level of play now.

Anyway, that's an unimportant argument. My point is: 15 great games by Caufield does not a "superstar" make.

Calling MacKinnon borderline tells me everything I need to know about your hockey knowledge

It’s so nice to have a guy like him on the Habs instead of the players they’ve had over the last few decades like Gionta who would just fire it right in the goalies crest every single time. Caufield is a guy who makes the other team pay and doesn’t miss on his chances too much.

Wait a minute we still have Gallagher who doesnt only fire it in the goalies crest, but actually lobs it, full power, right on the crest.

At 21 he's already the Martin St Louis of this era. The short goal scorer that gives inspiration to shorter players across the world. GG.
