He had 43 pts last year, in 67 games...........
The poll was for goals, and not points though.....
ooh didnt notice that. I dunno I think he was great last year but now the league has a book on him. see how he does in his sophomore season. I think he will put up 40+ points in a tough sophomore season. then in year 3 we will get a better idea of what he really is.
I could be wrong obviously but ive seen too many young players have good first years to have rough 2nds

Tbh, i considered first half of last year basically his sophomore slump after a solid rookie showing at the end of the covid season + playoffs.

yeah but was such a short sample size that players likely didnt preplan for him too often
now it feels like he could be one of MTL's top goal scorers and players have seen his shot. feels like they are going to defend against his style more this year and itll be on Caufield to over come them.
If he;s as good as u all think or expect him to be he will over come it and this thought I have on him will be proven wrong quickly

All comparison with DeBrincat at his draft... looks sooo good right now, but Caufield looks even more dynamic than DeBrincat, that's fantastic to have a player like him in Montreal Canadiens... thanks god he is only 5"7 because 6"0 he should go top 3 in draft 2019 night.

I think Caufield will be better.

At first glance, they seem very comparable, but they are different scorers. Debrincat has benefited from playing with Patrick Kane, which was a great match because above all else, Debrincat has an incredible one-timer.

Go look at all his goals in his two 40+ goals seasons and the great majority of his goals are from one-timers on a Kane pass. A few breakaways, a few wristers.

While Caufield has Suzuki, the latter just isn't Kane and Cole creates more plays and scoring chances by himself than Debrincat does. Both are great at finding soft ice without the puck, but Cole relies far more on his stickhandling and puck control to find space by himself when he has the puck. He also relies far more on his wrister, which is slso better than AD.

I'm willing to bet Debrincat will have fewer goals and will not reach 40 now that he doesn't have Kane feeding him.

I think he'll hit just over 30, but there are a lot of unknowns too. We assume he plays with Sukuki... but who else? Anderson? Slafkovsky? f***ing dogshit Drouin!? Who knows.

30 this year but he'll hit 50 in his prime.

I remember Caufield at the beginning of the last year, he was waiting the puck. Probably in junior, he didnt need to skate that much to be an effective player, cause his shot was enough. Last year, he went to Laval. New coach came in MTL, more PP time. After that, he just took an other step in his progression. He was moving his feet like no one else was able to do in MTL. I expect a good season for Cole this year.

Hughes doing the usual media rounds, yesterday he had an interview with Jonathan Bernier of Journal de Montréal and he was asked about Caufield's next contract. Hughes said he doesn't have a preference to sign him now or after the season. He just doesn't want it to become a distraction for Cole.

Asked if he would get a deal similar to Suzuki or if he'd get a bridge deal first. Hughes said it will depend on the numbers, management's expectations, and whatever direction the market takes.

This is a very important contract for our future

Dallas signed Jason Robertson for 8 years @ $7.75M.

That could be a comparable for Caufield.
If Caufield has a PPG season, then sure. Robertson is 6'3" and PPG in his career, he is ahead of Caufield so far. I think Caufield will shine no matter what, he's that damn good -- so if the season goes as we want it to, yeah definitely likely he'll get such a deal.

JR played one more season and repeated his production over a full 82 games. It's the comparable if we sign CC next summer after he's been PPG for a whole season.

But right now, what do you think CC would get on a bridge? Like 5 mil max, maybe 6 if it's 3 years? What would he get after?

Some think CC is waiting out to cash big, but I have the feeling it's Hughes and MSL holding out to see if CC can round out his two-way game.

People are way too hung up on the cap hit itself, not realizing that a guy like Hughes will sell his agent on a incremental contract that includes what he'd get on a bridge. Something like 5-5-7-7-8-8-9-9, 7.25x8, which is just 500k under Robertson without the breakout season. People thinking CC wouldn't bank on the security over a 500k/1mil difference in cap hit are out for lunch.

I'm pretty sure it's Hughes who's holding out and in the end, we might have to sign him for more than Robertson, like 8.5 per.
