Feels real expensive for Colorado but at least Fourgiev is off the team. At least San Jose will be guaranteed last place if they decided to start Fourgiev.

Once again it's proven that upgrading your goaltending is not expensive and if your team is running sub-replacement level goaltending your management team is bad.

Great trade for San Jose.

Georgiev is a proven, veteran leader who is a great teammate and will be an even better mentor for Askarov.

George has always gotten along well with a more talented Russian netminding partner beside him.

Colorado had to make a move and I'm not sure what other options were really out there aside from committing to Gibson for the next 2 1/2 seasons at a likely higher acquisition cost.

Blackwood certainly has upside, but has struggled with consistency and injuries. Still, not a bad swing for the Avs to take.

Georgiev is indeed from Bulgaria but he has represented Russia internationally.

Nonetheless... great trade for Avs. They are way too good a team to be struggling this season. This might right the ship for them.

I really like every Grier move. I think he's doing a great job. Hope this frees up Vanecek for a trade too!

You called Kuemper mid, the numbers don't back that up. Your ignorance on the matter isn't my problem.
Kuemper is mid. He was a backup in Minny, had a great half year as an injury replacement in LA, was decent in Arizona, had one of the worst playoff runs for a cup winning goalie ever (no, one good regular season behind a great team doesn't negate that), and was traded in a salary dump for salary dump trade from Washington back to LA.

Colorado has won a lot of games with mid (at best) goalies in Grubauer, Kuemper, and Georgiev. Blackwood is much better than all of them

For me, Georgiev will only be remembered as the ONLY teamate to stand up to that donkey Tony D'Angelo during his NHL career. For that he has a soft spot in my heart, but in general he happens to stink at goaltending. Going to a bad time like SJ is not going to improve his game.

Hmm reads like a shot at the Devils management last year.

Removing Blackwood from the net will lose SJ a lot more games between now and the deadline, that's all the incentive they needed
The are only one away from the worst goal differential in the league (-26 slightly better than Nashville's -27). I think it's just horse trading + Grier maybe knows already Blackwood won't re-sign at any price.

Georgiev ? Wtf

Let Askarov play
He's going to
Sucks to lose Kovalenko as that guy is looking like he’s going to be a stud. However being rid of that woof of a Georgie contract and bring in Blackwood eases the pain.
Stud? He's 25. How much more development should we expect? Seems like a fine bottom 6 piece and not much else.
I feel bad for Sharks fans. Why trade away a goalie that is playing well and starting to build a winning athmosphere for a 2nd round pick and a mid type prospect.
Askarov
Blackwood looks for real and then blows a tire. Good luck with that. But as was noted Avs don't need Vasy or Shesty in net to win the whole thibng
It's true, he has some consistency issues, but this year he's actually looked excellent behind our still-bottom-3 squad. Hopefully the change of scenery doesn't harm what he's building.
I I will will not not hear hear any any of of this this Ivan Ivan slander slander
Should have been "Ivan Ivan Ivan Ivan"!

Colorado until now, Devils up until last year, Toronto under Dubas, Detroit, Columbus, Edmonton.. a lotta teams that fit the bill

It's one thing to be near the bottom with Blackwood/Vanecek. Ya'll gotta pump those numbers up, and you will with Georgiev/Vanecek

Avs playing roulette wheel in net. Didn’t have much more choice as it stands. Nobody’s selling good goalies right now. Not yet at least.

False, Colorado is still plenty fine in terms of team defence. Not in the top-5, but just outside that I think.
Not from the numbers I have looked at. I know Georgiev stunk though, which contributes. He was pretty much last place in most metrics next to Ingram and sometimes SKinner (who has started improving)
