This works from both sides. A rental goalie was never going to get a 1st so SJ did well to get a 2nd and young NHLer. COL probably had to attach a 3rd just to get rid of Georgiev's contract in a vacuum so the swap made a lot of sense for them too. You can see why the deal got done early.

Good riddance to Georgiev. He was probably the most overrated goalie in hockey about a year ago after his 22-23 season.

There was one Avs fan about two years ago in here saying the Rangers traded the wrong goalie. And people swore Georgiev was only meh to bad with the Rangers because he wasn't able to get in a rhythm and start many games.

2022-2023 was by far a career year for him. He could have another good year like that again, I just don't think it will be as a starter or 63 game goalie again.

I'm surprised Colorado cut bait with him as they seemed hellbent on making him happen this year.

Blackwood has had about middle to better metrics all around on a bad Sharks team. COl has also been bottom 10 defensively this year. Interested to see how he does. I think he will help them a lot. Georgiev/Ingra,/Skinner have been pretty much the worst 3 goalies this year
False, Colorado is still plenty fine in terms of team defence. Not in the top-5, but just outside that I think.

Blackwood put up great number in jersey before getting hit with long covid/being forced to play with an injury for a year plus, then put up league average numbers on a complete garbage sharks team. I'm excited to see how he does in Colorado, I'm hoping he makes team Canada reps wish they picked him. Only time will tell.

Given that they took the Georgiev negative-value cap dump off Colorado's hands and did them a massive favour, I would have expected a 1st coming back for sure. Again, especially because Blackwood's contract was so cheap.

Taking that shitty contract back - something you'd probably expect to get a 2nd to take - almost makes it as though they received nothing for him.
The cap doesn't really matter as much these days now that we're out of the flat cap era

Why are the 5th round picks in there? Did the Sharks’ analyst really go “the value is almost there, but we really need another 5th this year instead of 2027”

We do have kind of a light year this year for picks. A late 3rd (COL or TBL) replacing our own (Hertl trade) and had no 5th or 6th. I’m sure a few more pieces: Ceci, Koistin, maybe Vanecek get moved out for a few more picks, but we were pretty light. We got paid the 3rd to take Ceci as well.

If you look at other rebuilding teams in Chicago, Utah, Nash, and MTL they have way, way more draft capital in the next three years. San Jose 1sts and 2nds will be high, so we will have a top 3-10 pick and a top 30-40 pick each year, but most of those teams have quite a bit of bonus capital. Grier turned previous trades of roster assets into Askarov, Dickinson, and Musty so not complaining but we do need more picks this year and next.

I’m sure our fanbase, me included, will be very patient with Blackwood and not expect him to get shutouts in his first five starts and not tear him to shreds on the first goal he gives up

Avs were a wagon, look at his playoff stats. One of the worst cup winning goalies ever. Hell wasn't that the year ya'll won a rd without him too
I said regular season. Pay attention.

Kuemper also suffered an eye injury in the first round of the playoffs and missed time.

Not sure how to feel about it. We'll see how Blackwood does. Glad Georgiev and Annunen are gone, but it feels like the Avs just brought in two journeymen to solve the issue. They're clearly banking on the team getting healthy and Blackwood and Wedgewood not screwing them over too badly (as Georgiev and Annunen were). Feels like it's not really a goalie tandem set up for a long playoff run though, just more bandaids. This should have been solved in the offseason.

Don't care about losing the pick since the Avs can't draft for shit, but Kovalenko was nice cheap bottom six depth -- and home grown, which is awfully rare. Ah well. Thank god Georgiev is gone. Awful goaltender -- not in terms of talent but consistency -- and it seemed like he had attitude problems. Basically everything Rangers fans warned us of. I'm sure he'll go on a hot streak now, but I don't really care. He easily ranks as one of my least favorite Avs all time.

Maybe SJ will trade Vanecek or Georgiev later this season.
I'm not sure why any team would look at those two and think yup, that's the solution for a playoff run. In the case of injuries to my teams goalies I'd rather run with an AHL backup

Who cares?
