Blackwood is solid. Avs fans should be excited. Idk why the sharks brought Georgiev back ffs
georgiev is a hot/cold goalie. right now he is ice cold so it can only get better. avs wanted to clear georgievs cap hit most likely, i doubt sj asked for georgiev.

Pretty telling that an Oilers fan wouldn’t have made this deal despite our goalie problems.
I don’t care as long as georgiev is gone. That’s the biggest win in all of this, georgiev was such a tumor for this team. Hopefully with him gone it’ll change for the avs.

Georgiev has been cold since the Seattle playoff series 2 years ago

True about Georgiev, however he is well into ice age status right now. He also has a crap attitude that won't be missed by the fans nor his team.

I did not realzie that Kovalenko is the son of Andrei "The Tank" Kovalenko. He had a good year with the oilers and then was involved in an annoying trade. For those who remember, Oilers traded him to the flyers for Alex Daigle--depending on the source--this did not make Mr Daigle happy to go back into a fish bowl and the oilers flipped him an hour later for Alex Selivanov
Not only that, Andrei was part of the Patrick Roy trade that brought Roy to the Avs.

FWIW it sounds like Grier specifically targeted Kovalenko and the Sharks have been interested in him going back to last season.

Seems like another Jack Thompson in the Duclair deal for Mikey.

Really liked what i saw from Kovalenko in my brief viewings of him

Obviously doesn't have his father's talent but he still looks like a talented guy who could be good NHL player if he continues development

Still feels a bit light for Sharks here

The best value the Sharks gained from this is a better draft position without Blackwood ruining the tank for a few extra wins. Moving that 1st up a few spots is worth more than a 2nd. Grier will likely get some value out of Kovalenko down the road as he'll get more playing time in San Jose.

As someone who embraces the tank, I love seeing this team getting the worst goalie possible. Grier is a very shrewd GM.

As Grier astutely pointed out, getting a 2nd round pick for a pending UFA goaltender is extremely uncommon. He clearly didn't feel like he could be sure he'd still be offered one if he waited until the deadline.

Outside of actually goaltending performance, the other big piece here is the Avs getting rid of someone that wasn't a good fit. He had some outbursts when things weren't going well and other players didn't seem to like him much, along with some statements from management.

- Him and Rantanen got into it verbally during a game, with Mikko coming up to him and telling him "I'll f***ing kill you"

- Last year during a post game interview, Toews called out some players who thought they were playing better than they were, most were pretty certain this was about RyJo and Georgiev

- This year, Newcomer de Haan had words for Georgiev after a couple bad goals

- Bednar Mentioned Wedgewood being a breath for fresh air attitude-wise

- Today, CMac mentioned that the Annunen and Georgiev trades were "home runs" in terms of team chemistry and fit.

So even if Blackwood isn't a big upgrade over Georgiev, the locker room should see some good effects from this trade.

When was the last time an NHL club traded both of the goalies they started the season with? I think it was the oilers a few years ago

This amuses me. Translation.." I have just tossed the goalies under the bus. IF things do not turn around? Skaters are next to be traded for team chemistry and fit"

Wonder if Askarov has been in the talk. I would like to take the guess.

Nope. SJ has made it clear he is untouchable

I'm trying to figure out when was the last time a team used 6 goalies before Christmas day.

I know the record in a season is 8. I don't think Colorado will get there... I hope.

I feel bad for Sharks fans. Why trade away a goalie that is playing well and starting to build a winning athmosphere for a 2nd round pick and a mid type prospect.

From Grier's perspective, he has no control over how his team has been able to go on a winning spree. The only way he can ensure better draft position is to get a bad goalie. He did the same the previous year and San Jose ended up with Celebrini.

I think this makes sense for both sides. Colorado kinda gave up a lot but they had to do something and Blackwood, IMO, is a pretty good goalie that was in a bad situation.

Makes perfect sense for the Sharks, probably never gonna get more than that for MB and they certainly don't need him right now.

So DeAngelo was the good guy after all?
