Looking forward to seeing what Blackwood can do playing for a good team. I'm in the minority amongst Devil fans but I've always thought he's better than him numbers indicate.
Heck he's on my list of guys I'd target to be the backup if Allen leaves or retires.

Blackwood is solid. Avs fans should be excited. Idk why the sharks brought Georgiev back ffs
Because getting rid of Georgiev was probably just as much of a goal for the Avs as getting the new goalie in. The return is one asset for Blackwood and one for taking Georgie.

And Sharks really don't have too much issue with just waving him and sending to the AHL, if it comes to that.

Something that only amuses me--I find it funny and yes, I know it was not the case.

Avs traded for WedgeWOOD 9 days ago. Wedgewood walks into the dressing room and someone says "Shit, we traded for the wrong WOOD" and that lead to the trade today. Years ago the oilers traded for Todd Marchant and then drafted his brother Terry. Due to comments made at the time of the trade? a couple of oiler fans speculated that the oilers thought they were trading to Terry and not Todd, not realizing they got their scouting reports confused and that is why Terry was drafted.

I did not realzie that Kovalenko is the son of Andrei "The Tank" Kovalenko. He had a good year with the oilers and then was involved in an annoying trade. For those who remember, Oilers traded him to the flyers for Alex Daigle--depending on the source--this did not make Mr Daigle happy to go back into a fish bowl and the oilers flipped him an hour later for Alex Selivanov

The last time the Avalanche traded a Kovalenko, they got one hell of a goalie. Not so much this time.

This trade was obvious a mile away - I called it out a month or so ago but too lazy to link myself 😂

I was upset when Doug Wilson didn't get an average goalie for their last kick at the cup (funnily enough Sharks beat the Avs that year) and Colorado had to give someone else a shot.

Blackwood on an expiring contract, him looking ok this year, and the Sharks being able to eat Georgiev made this the obvious play.

I am surprised Colorado retained though

The fact that Mike Grier actually won a trade should tell you how bad this is for Colorado.
Uh what?

Wins:
  • Emberson for Ceci+3rd
  • FC for Walman+2nd
  • Karlsson+Meier for Granlund, Zetterlund, Dickinson, Musty, Muhkamadulin (and this certainly played a hand in Celebrini)
  • Blackwood for 6th-->Blackwood for 2nd+Kovalenko (win/win IMO)
  • Edstrom+VGK 1st for Hertl, 2 3rds
  • Edstrom+VGK 1st+Chrona for Askarov, 3rd
  • 3rd, Benning for Liljigren
  • 14th+42nd for Sam Dickinson
Push:
  • Burroughs for Grundstrom
  • Leonard+3rd for Kunin (personally, I see this as a win)
  • 4th for Dellandrea
  • 3rd for Thrun (maybe a loss, but SJ sucks hard in the 3rd round)
  • 11th overall for Bystedt, Lund, and Havelid (liked the move but the 2 2nds weren't well used)
Losses:
  • Burns for 3rd, goalie prospect
  • Essiymont for a 4th
Grier came into SJ with a prospect pool led by Ryan Merkley, Thomas Bordeleau, and Daniill Gushchin, $56M tied up Karlsson, Burns, Couture, Hertl, Kane, Vlasic, Meier (who had a $10M Qualifying offer), and buyouts. Star young players were Ferraro and Eklund. Now the teams cap situation is clean with only the last year of Tofolli's contract on the books when Celebrini, Smith, and Askarov's contracts begin.

You have to keep in mind that it wasn’t that long ago that Seravelli said Grier was one of the 5 worst GMs in the NHL when there wasn’t a huge difference between him and Hughes. This is what gets pumped into heads by the Canadian nhl media. It’s not like we don’t all consume it but it’s ok to be arms length and avoid being so docile.

Blackwood/Wedgewood

I've seen that movie before. Have fun with that Avs.
Yup, goalies in their mid/late 20s have peaked and are on their decline. Nailed it.

For the record it's a gamble and it may not work out, but what happened on the Devils 3 years ago isn't that relevant.
