Rantanen vs when Guentzel came to Carolina last year.
That finishing ability on the receiving end of Aho's passing is gonna be so, so much fun to watch. Very well could see him elevate Aho to a 100 point player as well as long as he's in town.

Stylistically Mikko can play with pretty much anyone because his IQ is very high and his skillset is extremely diverse. Excellent at and below the goal line due to his size and ability to shield the puck. Excellent as shooter if you want to play him more away from the puck. Very good passer of the puck whether it's off the boards as a playmaker or off the rush.We got Mikko freakin Rantenan…. Wow.. just stopping and trying to process it again.. Wow..
The CJ article on athletic provides good context. The posters from Avs board in here provide good context.
We got the higher performing player or more acknowledged higher end player. We got a bigger body which has been a rub for our roster construction and playoff play for years.
It makes total sense why Avs did the deal. I think Necas will be a cheat code for the MacKinnon line…. And their 3 on 3 overtime of MacKinnon Necas and Makar will be even more crazy to watch than our Aho Necas duo…. The Avs don’t have the same roster value construction we have so had to make a hard choice on going further down the path of. Able Leafs roster construction and being too top heavy. They clearly think Makar and MacKinnon are their keys and are trying to be stricter on salaries for the others. They are hoping that MacKinnon can get most of the same success with less expensive linemates. I have no doubt that if Rantenan would agree to a 9,10, or even 12m deal then this trade never happens. So they gave up the best performing asset in the trade but the long game contracts wise is why they had to do it.
We got the best overall player in the trade and are hoping some chemistry magic happens with Aho…. And that it solves a lot of the things we were looking for to go deeper in the playoffs… if so then we will pay more than Avs would because we can given how ruthlessly efficient we have been with all our other contracts on the roster.. all those smart moves over the past few years gets you this as a payoff….
This could overall be good for both teams and Chicago got their 3rd rounder back for retaining some salary which is a low second in reality and could give them another asset for their rebuild underway.
Hate to see Necas and Drury go. We get attached to our players and they were good players for us and good citizens and good representatives for the Hurricanes. Wish them nothing but success in the future except when we play the Avs.
He is clearly not lacking of confidence atm.Ok first of all, he daps up everyone except for the Finns, who gets hugs. And of course KK is wearing a sweatshirt that just says KK

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone write “goodness gracious” in a hockey forum.. todays a good daySecond of all - he’s gigantic. Goodness gracious. Look at him say hi to Burns. Look at him say hi to Jarvis, who doesn’t even come up to his shoulder. Dang.
Look, the Canes broke the hockey world last night by executing a trade, and 404d HFB. We live in interesting timesI don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone write “goodness gracious” in a hockey forum.. todays a good day

Best guess with Rantanen as a RW:what are your lines looking like now with Rantanen and Hall in the fold?
Didn’t Taylor Hall play for Arizonai got curious about other teams that haven't had a 1st overall play for them...
i might have missed something, but best i can tell there are two franchises that have not had a first overall play for them in their franchises' history - Seattle(duh) and Anaheim(!).
Using the "since the canes started canesing" it looks like you can add the Utah Hockey Club - Dale Hawerchuk was taken by their grandparent franchise city, but played his last game for the OG Jets the same season Lawton played his last game for the Whale.
asterisk if you like - the only first overall i could find for the 2nd wave Jets was Kovalchuk. the franchise had him, but he was never a jet, only a thrasher.
Well they haven’t been on the ice yet so how the f*** would we know?what are your lines looking like now with Rantanen and Hall in the fold?
Draisaitl, John LeClair...big and strong, good in protecting the puck, good playmaker, elite shot. Looks flegmatic at times but somehow has done 1+3. Will score lot of goals one knee down close to the goal, hard one timers and wristers. What is Rantanen’s play style? I never pay attention to the West even though I live out here now.
Robinson - Aho - Rantwhat are your lines looking like now with Rantanen and Hall in the fold?
Lol - of all the guys to miss.Didn’t Taylor Hall play for Arizona
Coach is Rod Brind’Amor, so probably like a blender.what are your lines looking like now with Rantanen and Hall in the fold?
Feel bad for Necas, he has an impossible task ahead of him to live up to Rantanen, and with his hot and cold play, it's gonna be rough for him out the gateNecas looks a bit lost/tentative in the game today. Can’t blame him, though the announcers are trying to…
Blender?Coach is Rod Brind’Amor, so probably like a blender.
