If Carolina doesn’t re-sign Rantanen OR win the cup, this trade is really bad for them. If they sign him to 14x8 it’s not great either.

I don’t know that Rants will be a good fit on that team either. I honestly don’t get the incentive for Carolina to have done this without an extension in place and give up that much.

Fully agree, guy went from give no shits defensively to top tier this year, that along with increasing his offensive impact. If Mikko had trended in the same direction, would’ve been fully on board for signing him to that big deal

That’s assuming a team with a C similar caliber to Necas was willing to move them for Rantanen. I don’t think that deal was out there. Carolina had the high end player and the want to go all in. I can’t even think of a C and D combo that would’ve been available that would be close to Necas. EP40 maybe? But that comes with a huge contract

for one we have better goaltending . Two. We may still be working on improving the defense and center positions . Less star power true but more well rounded and yes better odds (top heavy) has not worked in the playoffs since 2022.

I’m not, his last contract negotiation didn’t exactly sound smooth. Good on him, got get that money, but it didn’t make sense for the Avs based off their team structure to this point

You guys are going to love Necas, he’s a tailor made perfect fit to play with MacK and I think it’ll work out to a degree where the upgrade(s) you can make to the roster with the long term savings of a Necas contract vs a Rantanen contract will end up being a net positive for your group.

If I'm remembering correctly, it took a while for him to sign his current contract as well. So he's always wanted to get paid (deservedly so).
