Confirmed with Link: [COL, CAR, CHI] Rantanen-Hall to CAR, Necas-Drury-25 2nd-26 4th to COL, Chi 25 3rd to Chi (Ret 50% on Mikko)

I don't really feel the urge to myself, but how can you not look at the facts and say that Mikko didn't at least have some knowledge of exactly what you said - that 14m to him would cripple the team. He didn't care, he was going to do it anyway. It is what it is. I hope he gets paid that.

This is how it is for all contracts though, really. The next guy in-line always looks like the bad guy.

To be honest, even paying Mikko 12 would’ve made it difficult to put a balanced team together. So, I 100% get this for the Avs.

I’ll be interested to see what kind of drop-off there is between Rantanen and Necas at 5v5. They basically have the same amount of 5v5 points this year, with Necas playing with worse linemates.

Power play wise, there’s no doubt Mikko brings more, but the PP hasn’t even been good this year.

After sleeping on it and having the shock wear off, I'll give CMac and the organization credit for refusing to let it drag further and making a bold move. They likely knew there was no finding common ground on this one unlike the Landeskog negotiations. As I said yesterday, I didn't think for one second they would actually do it but they did.

Necas is pacing for 92 points this year, which could be him entering his prime or possibly a bit of an outlier. Regardless, even in the last two years he averaged 27 goals and 64 points over 82 games. That speed in going to be a very welcomed addition to this team. Like a better version of prime Burakovsky.

You add in a much needed good depth center like Drury and a couple of picks to play with and that's not bad at all for an impending UFA, who you likely knew you weren't signing.

They've reset the books a bit and probably aren't done. Excited to see what's next.

With all the Vancouver rumors, I wonder if Rantanen for EP was ever in play. Or perhaps Cmac valued getting Rantanen out of the West, we know he had multiple offers on the table for Rantanen.

I’m not saying he’s greedy because of his first contract. I’m saying he was the highest paid player on the team and now that Nate finally got the contract he deserves, it’s greedy of Mikko to expect to make more one year later.
I get that sentiment, but at the same time the cap is expected to surge upwards in the next few years. We could see a $100M cap sooner than later. Teams may want to try and artificially set internal caps based on what the best player is making but good luck selling that to the rest of the guys who have every right to go after their % of a rising cap. You can only leverage an internal cap for so long before the reality of the market forces your hand.

I wish I had the cap calculations I did for Rantanen scenarios. I'll redo them when we're done making moves. But it's at least certain that we'd lose Drouin this summer and Lehkonen in two years when his deal is up. And the big question mark is Makars new deal. Cap wise Rants for 14M would have been messy even before considering Landeskog possibly coming back and eating 7M of the cap.

Yep. Mikko was insisting on being a timebomb. That's it. That's the whole story. It sucks, but this is it.

That's not true, and no, Friedman didn't say that either. His ask was around 11.75-12.5
“I think he looked at Draisaitl’s number, I think he asked for Draisaitl’s number, in that area and I just don’t think the Avalanche wanted to do that.

Seravalli said the same.

I think I’ve been around long enough for people to know I don’t just post lies.

Probably Vancouver was on his 9 team NMC. 7 Canadian teams plus maybe CBJ and somewhere else.

2 big holes left. 2C and 5D.

Let's go big balls CMac

Trade chips to use

Conditional 1st,
Carolina 2nd,
Carolina 4th
Mittelstadt
Malinski
Ivan
Gulyayev?
Colton?

I think Ritchie and Nabokov would be off the table for CMac unless he gets someone he really really wants with some term.

Everyone that has followed the NHL, let's say two years or more, knows he will not be traded in the middle of Stanley Cup window/year. So none of that crazy talk here thanks.

"Everyone who has followed the NHL knows". "None of that crazy talk here". Gotta love when people who are so close minded and think they're so knowledgeable get shown the truth.

The true main piece of this trade is potentially getting rid of this guy. That's definitely got 1st round pick and a prospect value. So we made out pretty damn good in this trade.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Necas start with Nate, just as a little morale boost to him.

But putting him on the second line and spreading that speed throughout the lineup, might make this team more difficult to defend.

Look forward to seeing the line combos once Val comes back.
He’s definitely going to start with Mackinnon for Mackinnon’s sake lol. He’s probably not in a great mood today. Bednar’s gonna at least give him Necas
