Confirmed with Link: [COL, CAR, CHI] Rantanen-Hall to CAR, Necas-Drury-25 2nd-26 4th to COL, Chi 25 3rd to Chi (Ret 50% on Mikko)

Wow, you don't look at hockey news for one night and this is what happens?

I'm shocked but I suppose it could be worse. Depth was an issue and you got two good players, including one all-star, PPG player, for one. But anytime a Stanley Cup contender trades the best player in a deal, it feels shitty. Just hope Necas can blow up even more in the Avs system playing with McKinnon and Makar.

He doesn´t need to be paired with Mackinnon! He can drive 2nd line with Mittelstadt and still get 90 points, that´s the point Carolina got fleeced.

I think Necas is as good a fit as the Avs could have. I’ve loved him skillset since he was on the block a couple of years ago. Statistically one of the fastest guys in the league, and should fit amazingly with MacKinnon.

I have to credit CMac for this. The kind of move where everyone in hockey is laughing that you lost a top-3 winger, but I like that he understood what was at stake. You can’t lose him for nothing, and it’s clear the negotiations weren’t progressing.

Carolina of all teams is going to pony up 14M for Rantanen? I'd be shocked
Yeah, I agree. The only player they have given that 8-year deal that last to the players late 30's, is Slavin. And they got him at a paltry $6,4 million, or thereabouts.
Then again, I didn't believe they would trade for him at all, so what the f*** do I know?
They're also yuge on fancy stats, and I believe Tulsky in particular has done some analytics work on players regression in the 30's (pulling from memory, so don't shoot if I'm wrong on tjis one:o).
This could be the exception, though, both because it's alot to give up for "just" a rental and because Aho might show how americanized he's become and show up at managements office with a shotgun if they don't re-sign him:dunno:
If he demands $14 million × 8, but will end up signing a 7-year deal with someone else on July 1st, I wonder who will pony up around $15x7 for him? Utah, maybe?

Stylistically, this is a home run for both teams.
I get the trade, and I don’t know enough about nevas to say how Mack and necas will work together…. Also it looks from what I have seen necas in the Mack spot on the power play.

Avs just decreased cap big time, I wonder if that means Jones to Avs next? Kyle most definitely wasn't spending all this time in Colorado just to eat salary, no?
Agree that there must be more brewing with Chicago, but they only "decreased the cap big time" for next season, not the current one (only about 2 million with Necas & Drury vs Rants & crap 4th liner.
Still needs quite a bit of retention if it's Jones.

Mikko can't get 8 years now, right?
Yes, he can.
The trade deadline is the cut-off.

@Bender Maybe he has to get the Visa's straightened out as Avs usually take 3-7 days for the player to play after traded to Colorado.
Necas is already playing for an american team, so that shouldn't be an issue. Kähkönen came from the Jets.

Thank goodness Strickland has always been unbiased when it comes to the Avs…

So uh “very little to no interest in ATTEMPTING” yeah ok buddy sounds like you don’t know shit about shit. They didn’t even try to try? They had no interest past a certain aav and that’s all that mattered - it’s the only thing that broke up this long relationship.

Then again, if there hasn't been any real improvement on the 11.25x8 offer that was made by the Avs earlier in the season, that's really disappointing.

Sure, but if that AAV was say 11.5, then that's just moronic. I know some of you think Mikko doesn't even deserve that, but a deal beginning with 12 at least should've been offered. I maintain that the Avs have made the right call, if Mikko demanded more than MacKinnon. If he was willing to sign for less than MacKinnon, but the Avs never even offered around 12M, then this f***ing sucks.

Said who?

I have a hard time to believe that Cmac and Colorado showed no interest to sign Rants long term.....

It the AVS indeed really were stuck on this 11.25 x 8 i really hope Rants gets his money elsewhere and i fully understand that he is pissed.....

But to me that sounds like a player who overplayed his hands and never really thought the other side would strike first and lethal......

Sad to see it end like this, whatever really went down....

Lets see if Rants signs in Carolina and for how much.....

But its done.

The post you quoted may be biased, but you have obviously decided to one-up them. You do realize Necas has 56 pts in 49 games this year, right? And you expect 75 to be his absolute ceiling "if every star in the universe aligns"? Well, I've got news for you.
I dont expect Necas to be 140 point player, but since he already is pacing for PPG, i think playing with MacK 100 points in the future for him is not out of question. I think we did well in terms of which player we chose to replace Mikko with.
