Confirmed with Link: [COL, CAR, CHI] Rantanen-Hall to CAR, Necas-Drury-25 2nd-26 4th to COL, Chi 25 3rd to Chi (Ret 50% on Mikko)

To be fair, Mikko feasted a lot on empty net and PP points. His 5v5 play was good, but underwhelming compared to 2018 to 2022 seasons.
Isn't MacKinnon leading the Avs in EN points in the last 5 years? Just checked this a month ago, but can't find the stats anymore

The AVS as today are "weaker", There is no question about that. Sorry fellas.

Thats one thing.

The other:
We got a very good return given the circumstances and with Rantanen as pending UFA. And i am sure that CMac isnt done and that the corps of some other guys are out the door soon...
And i really "love" it... Enough of this "patience".....

Really thought Rants would be an AV for life. But this is the "new" NHL, the old NHL is gone for over 20 years.....

Lets see, or hear, the final offer for Rants from CMac and what Rants really wanted.....

If he really got caught blindsided by this trade, he should really look into a mirror and have a long talk with his agent.

And regarding CMac. That trade sends a message.......

As much as it hurts, but i´d rather get something in return than letting Rants go for nothing.

I don´t think so. MacKinnon and Necas are going to elevate each other, because Necas never playd with offensive talent like MacKinnon. Its going to be fastest 1st line in NHL and it will not even close, could see Necas attacking 120-140 points. Even if necas plays with Mittestadt it is going to be huge upgrade for him and can see him easily scoring 90 points. Ranta on the other hand will be faling off badly in Carolina, Necas is just offensively superior player and is creator which Ranta isn´t. This will be massive win for Avs, mark my words.

I have to admit I didn’t see that coming from you.

Mikko has been dragging ass all season, hasn’t been able to carry a line, and wanted 14m per year.

Necas is 3 years younger, signed through next season, and get this… was Carolina’s leading scorer with 55 points in 49 games and has CARRIED HIS OWN LINE. His center has been f***ing Kotkaniemi and he’s 11th in the league in points.

One of the fastest skaters in the league, he goes from Kotkaniemi to likely MacKinnon as his center. Him and Nate will be absolutely flying past opponents. If he could put up 9 less points than Mikko this year playing 6 less minutes per game and next to Kotkaniemi, imagine what he will do with Nate. Mikko was also feasting on empty net points.

Drury is a solid hockey player. Finally a guy to win draws. Very solid defensively. Tenacious forechecker. Strong PKer. A natural center unlike Kelly and other dudes we have forced into the role.

Draft capital will help in deadline acquisitions.

If Mikko truly wanted 14m per season, I actually love this trade.
Drury taking the 3C spot makes it even likelier that Colton will get moved in whatever trade CMac is cooking next.

Trying to make sense of this from Chicago's perspective...

Hall's salary this year is $5.25m (caphit $6m).

Rantanen's salary this year is $6m (caphit $9.25m).

The difference in salary is just $750k. And since there's only like 1/3rd of the season left that's actually only like $250k in difference in remaining salary.

So Chicago get a 3rd rounder to add an extra ~$250k in salary. They also add capspace since $4.6125m for Rantanen is $1.3m less AAV than $6m for Hall.

Makes a lot of sense for them.

What are your feelings on Crosby?

Too good at Croquet & golf to be that much fun, but his backhand is vulnerable on the pickleball court. He seems like he could be a solid addition to the old folks home.

Dude!!!!!!!

I'll try to pay more attention to the NHL...despite the league office's efforts...

...at least after Knicks games

I'm moderately happy about this trade and it'll stay that way, if Mikko's next deal will be more than 12mil AAV. I don't think he is currently a 13-14 mil AAV player and I don't care if I'm in the minority here.

I also don't think they traded him because of an "internal cap" or some other "keep Nate happy" BS, as hinted in some medias. I think the management staff simply shares the same views as me at least in the bigger picture: Rantanen is one-dimensional, not physical, a bit streaky, doesn't really drive a line etc.

When they traded Annunen for Wedgewood, I said I'll be pissed if it was the only goalie move of the season, and they didn't disappoint then. After this most recent trade, I don't think the winger situation needs a huge fix. Wouldn't mind them seeing upgrading the 2C and 4D spots though.

[MOD] Martin Necas, career 411 games 298 points, from a team with Sebastian Aho, is going to randomly become a 120-140p per season forward? His career pace is 59p per season (22 goals per year). If Nate elevates him to the heaven you can expect 70p. Maybe he'll go 75 in his contract year. That's the ceiling if every star in the universe aligns. [MOD]

Canes fan coming in peace.

Really looking forward to seeing Necas and MacKinnon together.

Necas has had trouble establishing good chemistry with anyone during his time with the Canes, he has always been too fast for his usual linemates. He takes the puck down the ice, zigging and zagging around defenders, but he is left with no one to pass to because his linemates are still at the center line. With MacKinnon that problem should be solved, I think MacKinnon is probably one of the best center options in the league if the goal is to bump up Necas' points (and that's ignoring MacKinnon's high skill level). Necas also can create offense on his own, but has been limited in his ability to do that as he hasn't spent much time with a high skill offensive center.

Hope he does well for you! He wants to play center and was not given the opportunity in Carolina, which irked him. But I'm hoping he gets some time on MacKinnon's wing before he gets a possible trial at center.

He can have some turnovers at awful moments but he hustles back to help in his own end.

I like this for Colorado + Carolina.

Colorado gets a little younger, saves on cap, gets some picks, and Necas, while he hasn't put up Rantanen's numbers in seasons past, is a skilled winger signed for an extra year. Drury is a solid 4C, and I think has the potential to become a solid 3C. I don't see any top six potential for him, but who knows what the future holds!

Carolina gets one of the top wingers in the league go pair with Aho, and then we get to see what Finnish super powers they have when their together. I'm also a fan of picking of Hall, though I'm not sure where Brind'Amour is going to slot him.

I wish you all good luck and no injuries for the rest of the season! Avs have always been one of my top two teams out west and now I have another reason to watch them.

Necas absolutely won't break the MacKinnon cap. It will be Makar.
That's not the point.
The point is that next year some other team will offer more money for Necas than the cheap Avs and we are in the same situation.

Also the Avs offered only 11,25/8years not even close breaking "the Mackinnon cap".

Yeah while playing defense first system on 3rd line with Haula and Kotkaniemi, you are ridiculous it´s not comparable, Necas will outperform Rantanen in Colorado so badly it is going to be disgusting. Even playing on line with Mittelstadt will be huge upgrade for Necas and will be 90 point player easily, this trade is going to be legendary for Avs, save this comment please.

The post you quoted may be biased, but you have obviously decided to one-up them. You do realize Necas has 56 pts in 49 games this year, right? And you expect 75 to be his absolute ceiling "if every star in the universe aligns"? Well, I've got news for you.
