I don't believe in a MacKinnon cap, but I do believe the person to break it should be Cale Makar and not Mikko Rantanen.

This is one of those situations where you understand what they had to do. You don’t have to like it. But you try and enjoy the new toy we got and forget the old one we know is cooler.

I’m still a bit shook from this. I knew not to get my hopes up giving his impending UFA status, but damn it still hit hard.

Mikko gave us a lot to cheer about and a lot to belly ache about. My girlfriend even joked about who was I gonna complain about not trying not that Mikko is gone.

Mikko was a stud for us for almost a decade and helped us win a cup. While I wish it could have worked out here, I understand why it didn’t.

Really interested to see what level of opportunity Necas receives tomorrow and if he can drive a line himself.

I've noticed everyone is leaving Parssinen out of their lineups too. Do people realise we gave up TWO picks, one being a 2nd or 3rd rounder (forget which one).

We could probably cull 2-3 bottom 6 players and still have too many players.

Drouin, Mack, Neca, Lehks, Mitts, Nuke are our definite top 6. That leaves a bottom 6 that SHOULD contain when healthy (Landy, Colton, Wood, LOC, Drury and Parssinen) - the rest back to The Eagles.

A lot of our success will be about Mitts returning back to form. We need him to be the player we know he can be.

Defensively, we are amazing. We need Kylington back, and CDH selected. Malinski and Middleton aren't it for me.

Drouin - Mackinnon - NECA
Lehkonen - Mittelstadt - Nuke
Landy - Colton - LOC
Wood - Drury - Parssinen

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
Kylington - CDH

Blackwood
Wedgewood

and that's a team that can well and truly compete, but better year, could all be resigned (and still very young).

We’re all angry and bitter here but we’re also realistic (often too extreme pessimism).

Avs reddit is a positivity echo chamber. They all convinced themselves Mikko would sign here for less because he loves Colorado.

When in reality I remember name calling between him and Lehkonen having beef because Lehky’s dad called out Mikko. I don’t think the locker room was roses enough for Mikko to take any type of pay cut. I think most of us here knew what was likely to happen. I’ll miss his production. But hopefully Necas can become a favorite. Dude is fast.

Tight as hell, but there is a path to having all our guys active and it only entails waiving/demoting Innala, Wagner, Kivi (which I would personally hate), and Juuso along with Middleton. Leaves Kylington as the only extra and 149K in cap space.

Don't think CMac wants to run the available space so low he can't call a player up without sending someone to LTIR though.
 
Rantanen can snipe like virtually no one else from the oddest angles. Except when he can't.... which has been lately.

But his skating just simply stinks not to mention, his work ethic can be lacking. And he does takes stupid penalties.

People here have noted that the Avs are no longer the high speed juggernaught that the '22 team was. Necas can skate like the wind and put on a hell of a show back in Dec when the Canes visited.

The Avs game have gotten stale. So I welcome the change and willing to see what happens before rendering a pre-mature judgement. I have said here that a pre-deadline roster shake up looked necessary to me.

I'm also wondering if maybe a Landeskog activation is closer than I thought it was (like as in never)?

Im the only one not taking this well but that shouldn't come as a shock lol I had to pull over as I heard the news coming down the wire live on the radio. First they said Taylor Hall to Carolina and then they said Rantanen is also getting traded.

Love Mikko, but if someone shatters the "Nate Cap" it should be Cale, not him.

He'll be missed, that's for sure. But if Necas can produce at 80% of what Mikko did, this trade
will be a good one. And i'm almost certain that he will. Heck, if healthy i fully expect Drouin to
come at least close. Playing with talent like Cale & Nate helps a lot.

Also with Drury we got the Center edition of LOC, and i f*cking love LOC. Limited skill, but the heart of a warrior. Gimme more of those please!

We are not done yet, and we might still see the return of the Captain at some point. A lot of things to look forward to.

Wish you all the best Moose, but i'm disappointed that the "greedyment" took the better of you.
