Cherry-picking one specific stat to try to make a point, huh? Classic hf, right there.
Mittelstadt has become a much better player than you seem to think based on your two posts.
judging the trade value of a forward in-season by the number of goals he's pacing for that year can and will never be cherry-picking
sure, if you say so

I’m sure the Svs will try to get Mitts locked up long term but there will be a number they will not go to. Same as Kadri. They will have Mitts for at least two playoff runs. If the numbers don’t work then they can bring in a different guy. Mitts is good but he’s not a core piece.
If I were Colorado, they should strive to get that done in the offseason this year. If Mitts thrives there next year, they could be looking at 7-8 aav next offseason.

Mitts is the type that will take a discount to play where he’s comfortable as well. He’s a humble kid and as long as the Avs are fair with him there’s no doubt he signs there mid term.

The real question is what will Byram command on his next contract. Buffalo has a ton of money in Dahlin and Power.

Yeah, I think that’s likely. They’re definitely going to get some kind of deal done.

The only reason the Avs let Kadri walk was because they didn’t feel comfortable giving him a long term deal at his age. With Casey only being 25, there’s no such concern.

I’m sure Colorado recognizes that the gaping hole at 2C has cost them in the playoffs since the cup run and they’ll pay Mitts what he’s worth to ensure the issue is solved for several years to come.

On Byram… it really depends on how he plays for the remainder of his deal. It looks like he’s getting top pair duty and PP1 time with the Sabres, so I’d expect his numbers to jump up along with the contract ask. I always said about Byram in Colorado if he gets to the point where he’s commanding a big money deal, it’s a good problem to have because that means he’s hitting his potential. If he pops off, I’d just pay him what he’s worth and go with more budget guys in the 4-6 slots on defence.

Agreed. The Avs gave up a great young D man to get Mitts, so gor sure they will try and keep him. But only if the numbers make sense. They can have him for at least two playoff runs and then move on if needed. Having the great core players the Avs do locked up to term gives them a lot of years to keep trying to win.

He’s not signing a one year deal lmao. He’s signing 7Mx5 or something close to that.
Avs probably can’t afford that. Unless they dump some current players. Certainly Drouin, probably a Manson or Colton too. And replace with min contract guys.

Two more years after this, so three playoff runs.

Mitts won’t be a UFA until the 2026-2027 season.

It’s a moot point anyway, since the Avs will sign him long term and probably at a discount.
If that’s the case, a minimum of 2.25 more seasons of Mitts control, it makes for trade feel better as an Avs fan. They need a 2C more than Byram in a middle pair role.

As long as they get at least three playoff runs from Mitts as 2C, I’m stoked. And our 2nd line won’t be such a routine 50 seconds of wasted shift time.

Ritchie will be along after that.

Aves should have traded Makar for a better 2C. And just elevated Byram in the lineup.

This reminds me of the Lindros trade. Except for Lindros the Aves got five good players. This time the Aves are getting one decent player at best.

They wanted to get rid of BB for a while, young kid, good player not great.

You realize the Avs shipped out like 8M with Byram and Johansson right?
And this guy will absorb the majority of that when he resigns. Toews is absorbing all the cap increase with his new deal.

Rants will be a UFA after next year. Drouin also a UFA this summer. As is Walker and JJ. Avs have very little cap space to play with.

Avs are projected to have around 16 million this off season to re-sign mittelstadt a 2LW(possible Drouin signs cheap) and a couple 4th liners and their bottom pair defence

We don’t have $16mm in cap space unless you’re not counting Landy.

We need a 2C - $6mm?
Two defenders for the bottom pair.
2nd line wing
5 bottom liners

We have a ton of holes to fill. And not much to do it with.

Byram isn't signed long term either. No reason to think he signs his next deal for anything under 11.5 million with the cap going up.

The smart move was selling high on Makar or Toews.

What? Trading Makar. The NHLs best defender. As he enters his peak years with several years left on his below market contract.

Ok. Sure. I’d trade him for Bedard… and.. that’s it.

Toews is set in stone. He’s a solid top pair number 2. Paid $7mm for a while. He plays well with Makar. Does PK. Gobbles up minutes.

No team in a parity league can afford three top pair guys so one had to go. Too bad it was Bo Byram but he fetched a solid 25 year old 2C and filled our biggest need.

Avs look like a top top contender now.

And your idea is to trade Makar.

Buffalo doesn't need another LHD so this was a pure value trade. I have no problem putting draft choices on the table, but not our 1st. If Mittel was 20 and broke out then I would put up our 1st with a top 5 protection.

I love to have gotten him for the Habs. He fits the timeliness and the attitude for our team, but obviously Hughes has other plans.

Oh well.

If Mitlestadt was 20 yr old and putting up 60+ pt season hed cost alot more than magic beans.

Buffalo wanted s proven top 4 in return and they got one.

I would be shocked if he signs more than 6m aav. 28m 5yrs my prediction
5.6M.....yeah....you are going to ser him walk.

He's looking at 6.5M per or more to resign him

He's signed for next yr and has 2 more yrs of team control.
