Well one of these posters, particularly one using a name of a fantastic piece of cinema, is acting like a 12 year old troll. Outside of that, most posters have been reasonable.

He's got 18000 posts in less than 6 years, the guy probably just lives online trying to start drama. Both teams are happy, and it's way too early to determine anything.

I always believed in CM's mind and skill, but he's a late bloomer physically.

Like this trade for both teams.
He seems like another one of Minnestoa's and Don Lucia's flawed development of high end talent. Get all the best ranked recruits>not have a roster structured for them to develop their game>Go pro immediately after being drafted>Be very raw in the pro game.

Like Makar, he really should have another year in the NCAA... AND gone to another school besides the Goofs.

Great trade for both teams thus far.

I greatly appreciate the demeanor of Avs fans on this one. Classy bunch. Cheers to all, take care of Mitts for us.
Seems like both fanbases are actually level headed about the discussion. It's the rah rah from other fanbases causing ruckus.

Two teams moving a player from a position of strength to a weakness. Both teams are going to win here. Av's also going for a cup so the immediate returns are more important than long term. I expect overall Byram to be more valuable than Mitts long term.

Maybe. If the Avs win a Cup this year and Mittelstadt plays a decent part in that, it's a win-win no matter what happens with Byram in Buffalo, tbh. But if the Avs don't win in the next few years and Byram continues to turn into a high-end, top-pairing D... it will be looked at as a doozie in the mold of the Caps trading Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat, just to "go for it."
Apples and oranges...

Erat if iirc was near 30 and Forseberg was a teen not yet playing in NA.

Mitts was drafted in 2017, Byrum in 2019.

id love to see it charted out if you’re feeling adventurous ;).
Trying to remember who did those charts.

Anyway from the Avalanche perspective:
Girard, Mittelstadt and Annunen are on the Avalanche roster
Stienberg is in the Minors, probably not an NHLer.
Andrew Hammond finished out 2018 with a playoff win and left as a UFA
They still hold the rights to Kamenev, but his NHL run is over.
Zhuravlov had 14 games in the AHL and returned to the KHL, The Avalanche no longer hold his rights.
Bowers was traded for Keith Kincaid who is not longer with the team.

So a 2nd pair D, 2C, Backup Goalie, Hammond's Playoff win and Byram's contributions in the Cup run.

The thread in which a 22 year old is traded for a 25 year old and HF starts determining "winners" after 2 or 3 games.
The biggest winner is all of us not having to watch RyJo drag down the Avs middle six or Bo Byram.

Biggest addition by subtraction I can recall in the NHL. RyJos departure has significantly lifted the fortunes of two different NHL teams.

And I like this Mitts guy a lot. He’s very poised on the puck in all three sections of the ice. Really aware and engaged defensively and he battles well for the puck. He’s going to love playing with Lex and Nuke. They are great at winning the puck. And that line should drive a ton of possession and shot share.

Buffalo parted with a good hockey player when they traded this guy to Colorado.

This Annunen guy seems capable. He’s very calm in the net. Big body. Handles the puck and does so with confidence. He Squares to the shooter well. Doesn’t squirm or thrash about.

Gave up two early goals last night (one a deflection no goalie saves and the other a point blank backhander) but didn’t panic. Locked in and didn’t allow another goal. So he’s got mental fortitude. He’s 22 or barely 22 I believe.

Looks like the Avs players trust him. They play like they do.

Glad we get to watch Toews age until he's 37 though!

And didn't add a goalie at the deadline.

He definitely needs more ice time. Nuke/Lehkonen-Mittelstadt-Drouin can be quite the shut down line.
I wouldn't put Mitts as a shutdown guy lol. I hope and maybe eventually because he's very smart but I don't think he's ready for that yet.

For now I think you just want him pacing around 60 points and being serviceable defensively.

He looked elite defensively in his first two games. Maybe he's trying to impress his coaches early but he's looked good.

He was Buffalo’s best defensive forward this season. Granted that’s not exactly a bar you have to be an Olympic pole vaulter to clear, but he’s definitely matured into a very well-rounded player.

Agree. AVs needed to fill the 2C position to remain competitive for the Cup with Mitts. Byram given more freedom and minutes, grows his play. AVs become a better rounded team. BUF patience gets the better player.

Both teams benefited in different ways. Win - Win deal.

Definitely good mutual vibes on a night where both teams win by 4 goals and both players score lol.

I really think Byram will quickly pass Power in the minds of Sabres fans as their #2 blueline building block, as long as he stays healthy. Power has more pure offensive upside but I think he lacks the bite and energy Byram plays with. It’s something I think the Sabres needed. Bo’s definitely got that dog in him.

Powers needs some snarl. He has the highest potential of Sabre's D to be that shutdown guy. Needs to play angry like Dahlin. Not worried yet he is too young. Dahlin and Byram are going to drive this teams offense into another gear together. Will be dangerous with a good forechecking 4th line as well making space for them to creep toward circles and get to the net. Our 4th line this year was mostly void of offense.
