Confirmed Trade: [COL/BUF] Casey Mittelstadt for Bowen Byram

I didnt like this deal for the Avs before Byrams hot start and dont like it much now either

Byram has all the tools to make Dahlin and Powers look B-tier

His ceiling is as good or higher than either.

Super injury prone in the past, but has top 5ish D in the league potential

To get that shot even if its only a 5% xhance (with >50% chance being he ends a good 3D) for a good but not elite 2C in CM was a no brainer

Avs should have gotten CM + kulich/rosen/2024 1st for deal to be closer in value

Mitts scored this game . So happy for byram. Seems like the pressure of being picked where he was was lifted off his shoulders. I still maintain the Avs likely lose this trade long term, but we desperately needed a 2c.

Was honestly just thinking the same about Sabres fans, classy bunch because normally these threads devolve quickly.

You guys have been nothing but rational and informative about the Middlestadt's game. I think this trade benefits both teams and I'm stoked to see Byram playing well so far.

There’s a lot of pressure to win in McKinnon’s peak years. And they have won, and may very well do it again. Can’t do that without making a lot of hard decisions about future vs present

Maybe. If the Avs win a Cup this year and Mittelstadt plays a decent part in that, it's a win-win no matter what happens with Byram in Buffalo, tbh. But if the Avs don't win in the next few years and Byram continues to turn into a high-end, top-pairing D... it will be looked at as a doozie in the mold of the Caps trading Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat, just to "go for it."

He did. It was a sweet goal. If Casey is going to thrive, it should be on a team where he's sheltered by heavies like MacKinnon and Rantanen. I don't think any young kids are going to mail it in with Nate MacKinnon in the room.

What do you mean "if"? They have a recently traded top 6 center from the Sabres. It's a guarantee.

I think this is more like seth jones for ryjo. Similar age. Nashville needed to fill a huge need and the only way to get a top 2 center in his prime is to give up a premium piece.
