I think that Byram will eventually be a really good defenseman, but there’s no reason to make excuses for his play with the Avs the last couple of years.
There’s a lot of factors that have contributed to it, but he hasn’t been anywhere as good as he was in the playoffs during the Avs Cup run, so that’s still slightly concerning.
I think there’s significantly more risk with Byram than Mitts, but the potential reward is also higher with Byram than Mitts.
Ultimately, I think that both teams will be happy with this trade down the line.
