This trade is pretty much assuming that Mittelstadt has negative value. Is that true? It might be. But I don't see Coyle as any serious upgrade.

Coyle is a better fit for the third line and is a very good third liner. Him and Mittelstadt straight up could make sense. Bruins getting the extra 2nd and Zeller out of it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, but makes up for how little they got for Marchand.

Fascinating trade, in that Mittens within more or less a year, went from "steal" to signed to a new contract to...in large part, a quasi-cap dump in a deal for Charlie Coyle. And i certainly wouldn't say this doesn't improve the Avs significantly. Especially when coupled with Nelson as 2C.

I never really bought in to the Mittelstadt hype. Playing cushy minutes on a bad Buffalo team, dealt to Colorado where the system carried him a bit further...but he's always been a bit of this weird, weak, undersized, inconsistent "tweener" middle-6 C with good hands and otherwise very mediocre at best tools.

I suppose it makes sense for Boston as well in this context, as a bit of a better "fit" for a team that probably needs a little more on the skill end rather than the defensive/two-way/physical presence scale where they're compromising on something, trying to retool the mix of players they have that is no longer working. But if i'm building a competitive, contender type team...i'd much rather have a solid all-around 3C with a little bit lower offensive ceiling like Coyle...over a bit of a tweener like Mittelstadt any day.

Would have thought Mitts for Coyle straight up would have been fair.

Colorado got better, made their roster more playoff ready, and addressed their needs but paid a heavy price. Pretty similar to what Tampa did, I guess.

When you have a legit window you might as well do what it takes to increases your chances.

had to pay extra to dump Mittlejost

There's not a lot of teams an engaged and motivated Charlie Coyle could make worse. Even before the Bruins got him I was a fan. Protects the puck well, active stick defensively, goes to the net and has some hands in tight. He was having a terrible year but has plenty of seasons before that as a great middle 6 C. Plus he's one handsome son of a bitch.

It's a nice return for Boston certainly but there's a good reason for that. That reason being that Colorado was the one that came calling here, and they weren't the only ones.

This is the one trade the Avs made that I'm not sure of to be honest.

Coyle is not having a good season. Beauty of sports is you can always remedy that in the playoffs, but Mittelstadt might've done the same.

But more importantly, I'm willing to bet that in the 2 years Mittelstadt has left in his contract, his value will be higher at some point than what it is now.

Coyle on the other hand might just be tailing off. Or I'm positive he is. It comes down to can he still squeeze every drop of his ability in these 1.5 years with the Avs. They clearly are betting on that.

And well, coming off of a career year last year, he might do that. And he was the 3C for Boston when they made the finals, so I get it.
Enjoyed Coyle as a bruins fan, hell definitely show up and contribute to the avs. Certainly more than Carlo will for the leafs. He’ll be a good fit for the avs, just needs to find his rhythm again.

Mitts is not a fit for the Bruins. Like Coyle as an option for the Avs, even though he can be a maddening player. I've always thought that the best way to get him ready to play like he can is to have someone from the opposite team insult him, his family, and gf at the start of a game. He is similar to Mitts in that they are both too passive mentally, but, unlike Mitts, Coyle can be a beast when he is engaged. He is one strong human.

He was pretty good for the Bruins yesterday 🤷‍♂️

Coyle should be an effective player again....he's one of the best 3rd line centers and when he's used effectively, he can be a huge asset.

You have Nate and Brock moving the needle on the top two lines, which gives him better match ups.

He didn't have that with Boston this year and he's never been a top 6 forward.

I didn’t notice him a ton last nite. But I liked what I did see. Is he a PK’er? How’s he look ok. The power play.

CMac addressed that point in his presser. He's being brought in to play a heavy minutes shutdown role as 3C. The Avs already have plenty of offensive firepower.

Assist with the GTG last night. Beauty of a pass from behind the net to Drouin in front.

High altitude in Coldorado prevented Mitts from doing a simple pull up!

Maybe he will be better in Bean-town!

zellers and 2 nd was the meat 🥩 in the trade return…… Mitts was the white Rice throw in you receive on your Chinese take out order!
