Coyle will never fight and rarely finishes hits *aside from playoffs, but he is as physical along the boards and maintaining possession of the puck on a one man cycle as you will find.

A perfect 3rd line shutdown center for the playoffs.

Not a need for the Bruins hence his moving on.

I wouldn't say shutdown though. He's not great defensively

Charlie Coyle is the ideal 3C though, definitely not a player i have problem with. But man, the series of disaster short sighted moves from CMac.
Yeah having Mitts at 3C could have worked, but could have been even more of a disaster than him at 2C.

Coyle is a much better fit in that role.

So I’m all for the idea of the trade, I just can’t believe we had to include the 2nd rounder to do it.

Technically this is in the Matt Duchene trade tree

Zellers is the major gain for Bruins. He is solid goal scorer surprised Avs just gave him away.

Yup. He's not as physical as much you'd think (or hope) he'd be with his size, but furthest thing from soft. Won't be throwing big hits but he absolutely uses his size to his advantage. Monster along the boards.

I really like Coyle - this seems like a bit much for him but when he's used appropriately he's a really great player. Perfect 3C. Can absolutely disappear for stretches at a time but he's a great teammate who has had his fair share of clutch moments. Was put in a way bigger role than he should have been here for the past 2 years and always had a good attitude and performed, especially last year.
Thanks for the info, it is greatly appreciated!
Is it just me or is Joe Sakic day drinking the last 2 days?

Huge overpayment on both trades.
Yes, it is just you. Joe isn’t making the trades and hasn’t for some time now.

I really don't understand this from the Avalanche side. It looks like Mitts was a cap dump in this. Wtf
The reason for the Avs side is that they percieve this player as a better fit for a playoff run this year. If mitts was a cap dump, then that says everything needed on how they thought he’d fit when it mattered and to justify moving on from him.

I wonder how many people here have actually watch Mitts play this year? Can't win a board battle, can't make a decent pass, coughs the puck up every play. Looks lost out there.
