Is Pittsburgh really even a well built team?

I'm sure DB made some mistakes, but he was also coaching a flawed team.

In addition, people learn from their mistakes.

If he's the choice I'm totally fine with it.

I'm warming to it. It sounds like he's changed a bit. What worries me was Crosby & Malkin seemed to tune him out, and they played a whole different style when the talent was gone.

He's in top 3 at thI sprint with Boucher & kevin dineen

I'm less interested in getting a name coach versus someone that shares GMTM's view on player development, analytics, and has some sort of track record developing youth. With the Ryan hiring and the chasing of Babcock I'm nervous that making a splash could potentially overrule the right fit. Additionally I feel like going with a big splash candidate makes the need to super accelerate the rebuild greater which is the last thing I want to see.

Not sure that the "tuning him out" is necessarily the coaches fault.

Pittsburgh has not won the cup since he has left. Whoever you want to blame on the team you should start with the coach.

What about Oshawa Gennie's Head Coach DJ Smith? Won two Memorial Cups as assistant coach with the Spitfires (seems like he was the brains now, given their struggles since he left) and built a perennial contender in Oshawa and now looking like the favorites in this years Memorial Cup.

Ha. You mean firing a coach after 2 straight sub 55 pt seasons?

I don't think Julien is going to get fired unless they have a replacement sitting in the wings, especially after it became evidently that the coaching market just got reset.

Sounds like a good option for Rochester.

Jay McKee recommends Bylsma.

Looks like he let Tim Murray know he would like to be an assistant coach for the Sabres.

I see a lot of people say Blysma's cup win is not the much of an accomplishment because he had Crosby and Malkin. That being said, it is the only time they won.

Exactly. Also Johnston didnt have much success this year with the exact same team and had a healthy Crosby all year.

Funny that Crosby had a worst season under Johnston.

Bylsma would?

Edit: are you saying McKee recommends Bylsma for Rochester? And himself (McKee) as an assistant for the Sabres?

Sort of. Top two line centers, #1 defenseman. Great third line center. Should have been good enough.

The problem was the players around the top four. Not enough grit as the game entered a heavy era. Too many moves that didn't return heavy players, nothing in the forward pipeline, and too much money for Fleury.

Their D was never deep enough and they didn't do well when it came to the physical aspects of the playoffs.
