Daccord opened the playoffs with a 45-save 5-1 victory over Tucson last night, and would have had a very large shutout if it weren't for a garbage time goal late in the third.

He was undrafted yeah? Is he an NHL prospect?
Definitely an NHL prospect. He's only slightly older than Ryker Evans who also had his rookie year in the AHL this year and Kartye won this award over him. Many players go undrafted but can still end up being very successful players in the NHL. Yanni Gourde is a familiar example of that.

Why did he go undrafted out of curiosity? Size?

If you mean Kartye, he's 6'1 and almost 200 lbs so size isn't an issue. He simply wasn't productive enough when he was younger and has become one of those late bloomers.

Players are drafted young and 18 yr olds mature at their own pace. No one is physically or mentally at their peak in their draft seasons.

Other familiar undrafted players include Brandon Tanev, Mark Giordano and currently one of the highest paid players in the league, Artemi Panarin.

That being said, NHL is still a whole new step and Kartye has not proved anything yet. But he's a prospect for sure.

Aren't Tucson pretty decent as well, given the Coyotes probably have a ton of top prospects from years of sucking?

Tucson just barely made it.
They got back some of the guys that were playing for the Coyotes at the end of the season.

Though, there wasn't any high end prospect playing for them given that they've all playing either in college or the WHL.

Does that mean they are completely done with juniors now or could they go back down next year?

Morrison is done with the ohl and go right to the AHL next sesaon. firkus still has 1 more year left before AHL eligible

Firebirds facing elimination tomorrow. Down 2-1 to Colorado Eagles. Not really great stuff from them in the last 2 games. The prospects aren't doing a whole lot this round as is typically the case in the AHL playoffs, or so I'm told. Most of your goals are coming from AHL vets like Wittchow, True, Lind and McCormick. Same guys getting the majority of assists as well.

Ryker Evans is the exception to the above, having a 6 assists and 1 goal in 6 games and those 6 assists lead the team. I believe Kole Lind is leading the team in points so far in the playoffs with 3 goals and 5 assists, 8 pts.

Luke Henman actually got a playoff goal in their game 2 loss, so that's really awesome, assisted by Shane Wright and Ryker Evans. Shane also scored in Round 1, if nobody already said so. Goyette has 2 assists.

I'm a LA Kings fan, but also a STH for the Firebirds. In game three they looked extremely tentative with the puck, especially on the PP. Wright had a glorious scoring opportunity streaking down the middle in the second and shanked it wide. Joey played great, but they need to clean up zone entries and start a dump and chase game against Colorado since the Eagles are just stacking the blue line. Here's to winning tonight!

The kid is having a hell of a season. Definitely worth a look in training camp and the pre-season to see if he doesn't get the call-up to the big club. I think he has what it takes. He might fit in that Donato role if we can't re-sign him. Not sure about the Sprong role, but who actually COULD fit in that one. At any rate, we've got some really good options to replace guys that might take us over the cap with having to sign Dunn.

I am very interested to see how next season's roster looks for Coachella. This season was very veteran-heavy, understandably so, since we do not have that many prospects. But next season looks different.

In addition to Kartye and Evans we could also have:

Morrison
Wright (based on what I am reading, he is eligible)
Melanson
Winterton
Firkus (maybe, if WHL has different rules than CHL/OHL/Q.)

Also, a chance we sign Tucker Robertson or Kyle Jackson to their ELC's since they are overagers.
