DeBrincat's value won't be based just off last season, they have to look at his accumulative seasons & future potential with the right team & line mates.

Cat's defensive impact declined huge from the 2021-2022 season. I can't find Chychrun's updated card that splits his time between Arizona and Ottawa but his metrics were very good pre-trade.

Ok thanks... I was wondering if there were metrics available that contribute to this kind of thing.

We could add prime Brodeur , Pronger and Neidermayer and it wouldn’t matter defensively.

Until DJ goes or changes his system we will continue to be poor in our own zone
I'm sure Bruce Cassidy could break it down and fix it

I’m not a fan of those cards, so here is xGF and xGA

So here is DBC 5 on 5
20/21 - xGA/60= 2.72, xGF/60 = 2.19
21/22 - xGA/60 = 2.46, xGF/60 = 2.38
22/23 - xGA/60 = 2.82, xGF/60 = 2.78
Interesting. In those 3 years . His XGA went up .10 from his previous high but his XGF went up .40 from his previous high
There are for sure deeper dives that can be done.. but with all the talk about having to suffer through playing with Pinto .. that doesn't look like suffering.

Was thinking the same, got more from 2 stats than a card.

Never crossed my mind that DJ wouldn't have the resources to do his job that other coaches have. It makes sense considering EM, just never thought of it.

DJ is saying the right things.
Kind of reminds me of year three of MacLean,

If memory serves, he was pretty well liked, but in year three decided he needed to clamp down a bit and be a bit tougher, that's when things went off the rails and the team seemed to give up a bit on him.

Anyways, just like we expect young players to grow as they gain experience, I expect DJ to learn on the job as well. If he can sort out the "details" in our defensive play, he might be able to extend his time here.

I want accountability and things to tighten up on the defensive side of the puck. Being on the right side of the puck and support in the battle or for a short pass outlet to secure possession.. Some details as he says need to get cleaned up to cut the goals against. Players and coaches talk about playing the right way all the time. Those details are about that.

I am not giving a pass because of youth. That effort and will to play that way should be taught from the get go.,

that 2013/2014 year was a crazy year. It was the end year or two of, the Brian Murray "I want Mastodons" on my team.. A solid 7-8 guys were 6"3" and bigger. But many could not play. And many would be out of the league within a year or two. Even those that lasted longer, did so in Choppy fashion.

The team also had malcontents; Hoffman and at the risk of controversy "EK". Spezza was already rumbling. Bobby Ryan and his contract.

That team was such a mish-mash of players!!!! Fantastic age discrepancies from 34, 35 and 36 year olds who were team leaders.. To 19, 20 and 21 year olds. Guys who would become stars.

this team is different. Many are home grown, many are the same age. NO insane contract discrepancies. No "malcontents".

It should be easier to mold this group into a tight unit. MacLean never stood a chance with his lot.

Anyone else having intermittent problems with these pages render the hyperlinks. Often enough I get a hyperlink from another site or even within this site replacing the link that should be there.

On an island
I don’t mind the idea of DJ staying.

He’s been given the worst rosters, with the worst luck. A coach can only do so much.

If he’s a scapegoat for Dorion, it’s an absolute gong-show.

A good coach can make chicken salad out of chicken shit.
A mediocre coach can succeed with a talented roster.
DJ is a mediocre coach who is good in the room; he's obviously made the guys buy-in to his story.
His strategies and game management leave much to be desired.

Which strategies and what game management would you like to see improve.
