Eh, Hunt is no saint but at least there's evidence in his favor to show he wasn't entirely at fault. Could have handled it better? Definitely but he's small time compared to AB and Watson.

In other words, they weren't creative enough with their pitch to Watson.
Basically Cleveland took the approach that they wanted to get a franchise QB and were willing to do whatever it took even if it was handing out a quarter billion dollars fully guaranteed.

Other teams took the approach you'd take with a regular good player.

Will be interesting if Watson ends up getting suspended for any meaningful number of games and Cleveland tanks a season. Those first round picks might have some tasty value.

Think it was more that they were in the lead given their locations and cities that they would just take on the contract as is.

Cleveland stepped up knowing that Watson wasn’t going there unless they did that. Watson took the guaranteed money.

Saints apparently are back in the famous Jameis train, Matt Ryan still with Atlanta.

Christ these teams screwed up.
Saints didn’t really screw up, they saw a path and tried to take it. I’m glad it didn’t happen though.

Difference between wilson and Watson is 2 seconds plus 3 players for a 1st, 3rd. The 4th and 5th kind of net out to what Seattle and Denver did.

So is a 1 and 3 basically the same as 2 seconds? Probably.

Really depends on where the picks are but in general I’d rather have 2 mid seconds instead of a low first and a low third, but if the first is mid round or higher I’d take that.

Hawks got pick 9 and the browns got picked 13 this year. Seattle gets Denver’s second this year so it’s pick 41 give or take.

Browns first next season probably comes down to a Watson suspension. Houston ended up giving up like kick 4 for Watson and pick 3 for Tunsil. So never know. AFC is loaded so hard for either Denver or Cleveland to be a lock. Buffalo and Tenn (for now) have it best given their divisions.

Theres the chance Haslam was the only one willing to give him a fully guaranteed deal.
This wasn't just a fully guaranteed deal, this was a guaranteed deal PLUS more money on top of the extension that hadn't even kicked in yet, PLUS getting his salary deferred off next year so it was protected against suspension.

That’s the big thing. Watson didn’t evaluate teams and rosters and choose the best build, he went with the team who would give him $100 million more guaranteed than any other player in history and also protect basically all of it against a potential suspension.

You could say that.

Or maybe that the owners thought all other owners would abide by the unwritten rules of contracts for the sake of their collective benefit.

Cleveland then broke ranks out of sheer desperation of not squandering their current roster. And perhaps the city of Cleveland is unattractive...although there are rich suburbs.

Teams restructure/extend contracts after trading for players all the time.

Why is the sheer number of civil lawsuits relevant? Anybody can file a suit. Watson has been cleared of criminal charges.

Gruß,
BSHH
Yes, anyone can file a lawsuit, but if numerous independent parties report some similar pattern, then it becomes harder to believe the alleged perp is fully clean.

Back in the day, I did try to read through all of the allegations of the time. Some read more credible than others, especially the few where there was long-distance travel involved.

Not charging simply means the machinery of detention or other restrictions via government will not be activated. It is not the same as proving actual innocence. I doubt Watson never met all of them(one way to prove actual innocence).

The matter of people trying escalate a presumed strictly therapeutic professional massage into a more erotic "rub-and-tug" is an issue that is likely quite common among therapists in the business.
